Head of software Engineering

AMPD.CAMP is a team of trailblazers inspired by adventures in the outdoors and on the road. Informed by our engineering knowledge and experience, we’re developing sustainable solutions for the future of EVs and recreational vehicles.  We’re looking for a passionate, mission-driven leader to join our growing team to architect and build AMPD.CAMP’s Vehicle-to-Grid(V2G)/Vehicle-to-Anything(V2X) software infrastructure.

AMPD.CAMP’s technology connects stored/idle vehicles to the electrical grid – providing crucial grid-tied energy storage and laying the groundwork for a renewable future.  Our Head of Software Engineering will be responsible for defining and creating our cloud architecture, implementing and hardening our AI-based V2X management system, and developing the IOT infrastructure required to connect the US’s 11M+ RVs to the grid. We’re looking for a hands-on people leader who can do the work while growing and leading our software team and our software infrastructure.  This role is responsible for both our cloud-side solution as well as in-vehicle hardware control and IOT integration. You will be a core member of AMPD.CAMP’s leadership team with unlimited room to grow.

• 7+ years of functional experience in software engineering leading teams developing for mobile, web, cloud, embedded, and AI/ML including defining a software development plan and release schedule, leading agile ceremonies, and releasing production code.

• 7+ years of experience in software development and architecting micro-service oriented architectures encompassing IoT, cloud, mobile, and web

• 7+ years of experienced using Git for version control including a thorough understanding and application of branching strategies for feature development, bug fixes, and maintaining production code

• 7 + years of hands on experience building and deploying applications in cloud native environment, preferably using Amazon Web Services (AWS), with work experience in AWS IoT, AWS Functions, Kinesis

• 7+ years of experience with Python

• 5+ years of experience with AI/ML including using Tensorflow and/or PyTorch

• 5+ years of experience developing AI/ML ETL pipelines for supervised learning applications

• 5+ years of experience applying Reinforcement Learning (RL) to real world problems

• Appropriate academic background, preferably MSC in Computer Science or similar

Great to Have:

• Experience as an RVer

• Knowledge of RV house and electrical systems

• Knowledge of EV charging standards (shore and vehicle-side)

• Experience with utilities, energy markets, trading

A day-in-the-life

 AMPD.CAMP was inspired by the lure of life on the road.  Our mission is to revolutionize the way we think about intermittently used vehicles like RVs.  By connecting the batteries in idle RVs to the electric grid, AMPD.CAMP provides electrical storage that is crucial for renewable energy.  With onboard solar generation RVs can also serve as grid-connected renewable generation.  Our patent-pending Machine Learning algorithms control charging, reserve-hold, and electrical dispatch to the grid.  Our novel hardware solutions will address the 11M RV currently in the US, and will set the standard for new “E-RVs” set to begin entering the market.

This role is about helping us scale and grow.  We need a leader who will take the reigns of our IOT/cloud implementation and connect our machine learning models to real-world “things”.  You will have daily interaction with the AMPD.CAMP leadership team but will be empowered to make broad technical decisions on the architecture and approach to our software stack.  Our immediate need is for help in prototyping and MVP development.  You will be responsible for bringing industry best practices to cloud implementation.  As Head of Software, you will provide visionary leadership as we grow our development team.

 We expect this role to remain primarily virtual for the foreseeable future.  Our team is primarily virtual, although we have a physical office at the University of Washington’s Clean Energy Testbeds in Seattle, WA, where we’re working hardware development.
