Lumen Energy
Full-stack engineer, front-end focused (Remote)
About the Job
Lumen Energy is automating clean energy deployment across the built environment.
The scope of the opportunity is massive: the roughly 6 million commercial buildings in the US are responsible for 16% of all greenhouse gas emissions. Most of them could save money and reduce emissions with solar, yet fewer than 4% have solar in place today.
We leverage software and data science to uncover the economically ideal “clean energy stack” for every building. Next, we make clean energy deployment widely accessible by abstracting away the complexity of an underlying marketplace of installers, financiers and confusing electrical jargon, creating a delightful, software driven experience for customers to simply click to deploy clean energy.
While this is an audacious scope, we believe that the combination of our powerful clean energy pricing engine, together with the end-to-end tools for deploying and managing clean energy, will unlock the clean energy transition from vision to action in commercial real estate.
Who We Are
We are a small team of scientists, engineers, designers and entrepreneurs committed to powering our world with clean energy. We build on experience at Stripe, Google X, Shopify, and US national labs. While we're early in our journey, we are already working with leaders in commercial real estate like Hines, Bridge Investment Group and Hamilton Zanze and are funded by exceptional investors like Lowercarbon Capital and Designer Fund.
We are a remote-first company, but get together in-person during quarterly company offsites. Applicants must be willing to work within +/- 3 hours of Pacific Time.
Our Engineering Culture
We believe the best products are built in an inclusive and collaborative environment. We hire teammates who thrive on ownership, care deeply about impact and are naturally curious. We believe a startup’s advantages stem from speed and iteration, and a focus on outcomes for customers and teammates.
About you
You love building robust software products, while thinking deeply about details in the UI, but care most about shipping impactful features that help users get things done.
Responsibilities
Helping to build the engine that allows us to automatically evaluate the economic potential of a building for on-site energy
Creating tools that make it easy for building owners to understand the complicated factors affecting their energy usage, utility bills and carbon emissions
Building out our multi-sided user-facing platform for building owners, tenants, installers and financiers to orchestrate a complicated process with intuitive software
Collaborating with data scientists at Lumen and national laboratories to make key insights accessible through visualizations
Technologies we use: Javascript, React, NextJS, Tailwind, Python, Flask, Rust, GraphQL, Google Cloud Platform
Requirements
4+ years professional experience building front-end web applications in Javascript and at least 2+ years of professional experience with React
Willingness to dive into Python when needed
Comfortable with Typescript and React
Understand how to build and create design systems that scale
Ready to take on a high level of responsibility as part of a small team that moves quickly.
Nice to haves
Experience working in energy and/or data visualization
We are proud to be an equal opportunity workplace committed to building a team culture that celebrates diversity and inclusion.
