About the team

These opportunities sit within our Engineering division as part of the Ground Segment team.

Location – The Engineering team are based across Europe (Germany, France, Italy, Romania, Spain) for this opportunity you will need to be based in Germany with occasional travel to our office in Freiburg.

About these roles,

We are looking for two bachelor students or intern’s passionate about space, satellite operations, and software development. A potential candidate has ideally some experience programming small scripts and basic familiarity with satellite architecture. We look for a goal-oriented student who can deliver reliable results in a tight schedule. Please check out both requirements below (we have two opportunities).


As our Ground Segment Assistant, you will be:

  • Creating a baseline satellite mission information base (MIB).
  • Reading multiple satellite manufacturer Interface Control Documents (ICDs) and using this information to create and fill multiple Excel tables.
  • Creating CSV files from Excel data.
  • Producing detailed documentation describing CSV format as well as its content.
  • YAML schema files describing the format of the CSV files.

As our Ground Segment Assistant, you will be:

  • Creating a java library for reading and writing binary files in different formats.
    The formats are:
    - A stream of pure Cubesat Space Packets (CSP).
    - A stream of CSP packets encapsulated inside Canbus packets.
    - A stream of CSP packets encapsulated inside another custom format (Radio Frames).
  • Demonstrating the capability of this library an example command-line (CLI) application shall be developed.

About you

  • A Bachelor student in Aerospace Engineering, Informatics, or similar fields of study.
  • Basic understanding of general satellite architecture.
  • An engaging and social team player, with a passion for space systems and software development.
  • Some understanding of general satellite architecture.
  • Experience in programming.
  • Comfortable working in a distributed team and using collaborative tools.
  • Very good written as well as spoken English skills .
