We have an opening for a Manager of Accounting and Finance to join our growing Finance and People Operations team. We are building a team of world class talent and are looking for a self-motivated, detail-oriented, passionate candidate who can collaborate with multiple internal teams and stakeholders and help our business continue to mature in a high growth environment. As the Manager of Accounting and Finance, you will support both Sustain.Life and 4Sided, as well as potentially support other incubated companies spun out of 4Sided. You will have a direct impact on helping our team continue to raise the bar for our financial operations as we scale. You will be an essential part of the financial management team, overseeing organizational systems for gathering data, analyzing information, ensuring the timely and accurate delivery of financial statements and other reporting, and providing recommendations for improvement. An important part of this role is understanding all types of financial operations at a company and how they work together.
This role will report to our COO, will have a dotted line to the VP of Finance and People Operations, and will collaborate and work very closely with the People Operations team. There will be an opportunity to cross-train on select functions in the People Operations area.
An ideal candidate will have a solid record of experience in accounting, financial statement preparation and preparation of information to support budgeting, forecasting, and the external tax preparation process. We are looking for someone who is not only analytical, but practical, tactical, and detail oriented. This individual will need to roll up their sleeves and perform many tasks from the ground up.
In this role, your core responsibilities will include:
- Performing the daily and weekly tasks to support our operations, including:
- Setting up customers, creating invoices, applying customer payments and collections
- Setting up vendors, facilitating outgoing payments that have been properly approved and ensuring proper coding of transactions
- Ensuring intercompany transactions are properly recorded:
- Computing capitalizable IP
- Preparing intercompany invoices between the US entities and reviewing and approving those issued to 4Sided by the foreign entities
- Coordinating with the external accountants for the foreign subsidiaries to ensure intercompany charges are supported and properly recorded
- Reconciling intercompany accounts
- Performing the financial reporting function, including:
- Preparing and recording journal entries
- Producing financial statements, both individual and consolidated
- Preparing account reconciliations
- Ensuring compliance with financial reporting standards
- Analyzing variances, identifying trends, and identifying areas for improvement
- Producing additional routine metrics and information for internal meetings, Board meetings and investor reporting
- Assisting with the budgeting and forecasting process, including:
- Ensuring various source documents that feed our models are updated
- Assisting the COO with the Budgeting and Reforecasting process
- Ensuring the companies are in compliance with tax laws and obligations, including:
- Preparing information to support the third party tax preparation process
- Filing select returns that are done in-house
- Ensuring issues related to equity are correct and supported, including:
- Ensuring any equity-related transactions are fully documented and supported
- Recording all equity transactions in Carta
- Producing capitalization tables and reconciling to the books and records
- Assisting with the 409A valuation process
- Assisting with insurance renewals
- Ensuring all required company documentation is saved in a complete and logical manner
- Other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Who you are:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting, or equivalent professional experience
- At least 5-8 years of related work experience
- Ability to think in the big picture while also willing to roll up your sleeves to accomplish the day-to-day responsibilities of the role. Strong attention to detail and a passion for accuracy
- Excellent understanding of accounting concepts, internal controls, budgeting and forecasting, financial reporting standards, and best practices
- Strong accounting/finance technical and analytical skills. Ability to synthesize complex data into actionable information
- Excellent problem solving, business judgment, analytical, and decision-making skills
- Excellent organizational, prioritization, and time management skills
- Ability to work independently & productively in a fast-paced team environment that values collaboration. Effectively sees projects through from start to finish, proactively anticipates needs, and problem solves creatively
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Able to communicate effectively to share learning and make clear group decisions. Able to present your work with clarity and confidence
- Able to successfully and effectively partner with a variety of people in a multi-cultural environment, work on a remote team, and build and foster positive working relationships across teams in a completely remote workplace
- Quick to learn software products you have not used before
- Advanced experience working in Quickbooks Online and Excel

Base Salary: $105,000 - $155,000
The base salary range represents the low and high end of the anticipated salary range for this position. The actual base salary offered for this position will depend on numerous factors including individual experience within the salary band and business objectives. Our base salary is just one component of Sustain.Life's competitive total compensation package that also includes an Employee Stock Purchase Plan as well as other region-specific health and retirement benefits.
