Job Description

Climate Arc is in its first full year of operation, and we are now looking to add a Director of Partnerships to our growing team. This exciting, newly created role will play a critical part in delivering Arc’s strategy of boosting the capacity of the climate finance ecosystem through grantmaking, contracting and dynamic partnerships with NGOs, philanthropists and others working in the space. Working closely with the leadership team will be critical to the success of this role to guarantee that investment is aligned with, and complements, the work being done across Arc. Internally as a thought partner, and externally as an ambassador, the new Director will build upon the knowledge and experience of the existing team and position Arc as a bold leader in philanthropy.

Working closely with the Director, Research & Programs you will identify gaps in the current ecosystem and build dynamic solutions to fill them. This may be through granting or contracting existing non-profit and commercial entities, identifying opportunities for mergers, or establishing new organizations through seed investment and strategic partnerships with philanthropists and/or impact investors.

The investment portfolio will focus on Arc’s 3 strategic pillars:

  • Intelligence: opening up and curating climate data, information and insights globally and for specific sectors and regions – for use in financial decisions.
  • Pathways: the frameworks, methodologies and standards needed to guide the direction and pace of net-zero financing decisions
  • Human capacity: building the skills and assembling networks of people worldwide to integrate climate science into financial decisions.

You will lead the Partnerships team and oversee the investment portfolio of grants and contracts including implementing RFP drives; reviewing and assessing proposals; and progress, performance and risk monitoring. You will build Arc’s reputation as an open, efficient and progressive thinking philanthropist. You will oversee the program budget ensuring good stewardship and efficient use of Arc and its contributors’ funds. You will liaise with the Investment Committee and, where appropriate, the Advisory Council (Arc’s Board of Directors) to ensure that all investment is aligned with our vision, mission and strategic goals.

You will oversee Arc’s own fundraising efforts to ensure the long-term financial sustainability of the organization. Working closely with the Chief Executive, you will build on relationships with existing funders and attract new ones. You will design and implement a fundraising strategy that utilizes current donor strategy alignment as well as positioning Arc with potential new philanthropic organizations and individuals not yet active in the space.

You will support local fundraising efforts and identify opportunities for Arc’s investment portfolio to complement and add value to local and regional programs and vice versa for Arc’s global network of climate finance hubs being established in emerging markets with the strategic purpose of boosting capacity at the local and regional level.
