PUR is seeking an engaging and impact driven individual for a role of Country Manager East Africa
PUR has been working in Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda, since 2015, and Kenya since 2020, implementing sustainable coffee ecosystem projects. To date, 900 000+ trees have been planted with 10 000+ smallholder farmers, 500 farmers are being trained on Good Agricultural Practices and other projects related to community resilience.
As PUR is expanding worldwide, we are looking for a dynamic and organized Country Manager East Africa who will report directly to the Regional Manager (based in Abidjan) and will closely collaborate with a number of colleagues based in the Paris, Uganda, Canada and other Global Offices.
Your missions will be to support the development, coordination, management and monitoring of ecosystem restoration, agroforestry and regenerative agriculture initiatives on behalf of PUR’s new and existing clients in East Africa (Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda); for the purpose of restoring ecosystem services and supporting sustainable livelihoods such as but not limited to :
Project management: Set-up, Plan, Coordinate, and Monitor the implementation of project activities at sub-regional level, build, train and manage local partners, control quality of implementation, design and improve proceedings, coordinate the implementation of impacts monitoring activities, develop and manage project budgets, be accountable for the budget and reforecast management as well as the financial reporting of projects, support carbon certifications.
Project development: Assess the feasibility of, and design new ecosystem restoration projects in East Africa. Develop strategy plans for new and existing projects, aligning with key industry frameworks and/or carbon accounting methodologies. Identify and pursue opportunities to scale projects and collaborate with the relevant departments to activate project scale up and improvement opportunities. Be accountable for regular reporting on progress in the sub-region projects.
Deliverable management : Manage PUR teams, be accountable for the coordination of project client deliverables and ensure internal tools are up-to-date. Responsible for the development of the operations and the development of the team (Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda).
Project monitoring: Be accountable for the data collection, analysis and reporting on his/her area. Provide reporting at the area’s level.
Monitoring, planning and team management : Be accountable for the budget management and for the resource management of the entity if any, Be responsible for the resource management of the projects in the East Africa area (workload, recruitment advice, participate in salary benchmark, benefit advice...). Be accountable for administrative and financial topics in the area with support of Central Services.
Partnerships and local representation : Identify, build relationships and supervise local partners (cooperatives, associations, implementing partners). Represent PUR publicly at conferences, in meetings with existing and potential clients, and with beneficiaries in the field.
Strategy: contribute actively to the regional strategy and provide inputs to the Regional Manager on local opportunities for business development or stakeholder engagement. Contribute to the strategy and scale up in East Africa : implementation of the PUR’s strategy, help on new entity if any…
You have solid project management skills: development and implementation of work plans, financial and technical management of contracts, liaison with relevant stakeholders, etc.; You know the field and the local challenges, You are passionate about climate, forestry and ecology, and are a real team player : This position is for you!
We are looking for a candidate with:
Minimum of 10 years in the management of projects in Africa and/or field projects implementation worldwide.
Graduated from a Msc in Environmental protection, Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, Agronomy, Forestry, Business or International Relations.
Entrepreneurship mindset: autonomy, ability to design new activities, proactivity to consult other teammates and local experts.
Management of operations: planning operations, following up on targets, reporting on achievements/delays, proactively looking for solutions.
Digital Tools: Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and Google Drive. Experience in data collection is an asset.
Knowledge/professional experience related to the coffee supply chain will be an asset.
Knowledge in carbon certification for afforestation/reforestation projects will be an advantage.
Must be fluent in English and Amharic. French would be an asset.
