Vice President for Federal Finance


Boundary Stone Partners (BSP) is seeking a highly motivated Vice President for Federal Finance to join our fast-growing team of climate, clean energy, mobility, decarbonization and space experts. Boundary Stone Partners prefers this role work from our Washington, D.C. office. The salary range for this position is $150k-190k/year, with bonus potential.

About The Role

The Vice President for Federal Finance will play a key role for BSP’s growing Federal Finance Practice (FFP). The FFP supports  innovative and game-changing clean energy and technology companies in their efforts to secure non-dilutive funding or financing from the U.S. federal government, primarily in the form of grants or loans. BSP leverages its unparalleled expertise across the energy and climate-focused elements of the U.S. federal government to identify the highest-impact opportunities and then help clients navigate the federal processes necessary to compete for and win these awards. We offer premium, soup-to-nuts service supporting application development, political finesse, negotiations and beyond.

Core responsibilities for a BSP Federal Finance VP include:

  • Leading a Client Experience. In close consultation with a managing Partner or Senior Vice President, this VP will have a central role for BSP Finance clients, including serving as a principal point-of-contact for clients, leveraging their expertise to make strategic decisions on application framing and development, and serving as a primary source of expert advice and project management for a BSP engagement focused on a federal loan or grant application. 
  • Generating Great Content and Managing Projects. This VP will lead the development of federal lending and grant applications on behalf of clients, including directly drafting the written material for substantial portions of applications and creating the narrative for the role a clean energy technology or project will play in achieving a deeply decarbonized U.S. economy. The VP will also lead development and oversight of BSP project management systems, building a path to development of strong applications, managing agency interactions, working closely with innovative clients and interfacing directly with the client’s legal, policy, and business lines 
  • Collaborative Development and Management. As part of a client engagement, the VP will manage staff at the Director and Manager levels to create documents, memos, and slide decks for clients and proactively flag and synthesize policy developments and political intelligence for clients
  • Political Savvy and External Relationships. As necessary, build relationships with key policymakers both on Capitol Hill and in federal agencies and with other influential federal government-oriented stakeholders
  • Congressional Affairs. Prepare clients for Congressional hearings, federal agency rulemakings, and other federal legislative and regulatory proceedings
  • Business Development: Manage client relationships from proposal generation through execution of government affairs strategy and become a go-to-trusted resource for clients 
  • Uncover business opportunities and new opportunities with existing clients 


About You

  • 10+ years of federal government, finance, policy or corporate government relations experience in the energy or transportation sectors 
  • Deep understanding of federal funding programs, including application drafting, and policy development
  • Strategic thinker with polished writing and strong oral presentation skills
  • Deep understanding of Congressional lawmaking and federal regulatory processes
  • Established Congressional and Executive branch relationships and you confidently interact with key Hill staff, elected officials, and executives alike
  • Thrive under pressure and can balance long and short-term priorities across several clients to deliver results
  • Resourceful and entrepreneurial, roll-up your sleeves, and not afraid to think outside the box
  • Experience as a team-oriented people manager
  • Wants to work with a team who values collegiality and a sense of humor
