Design Engineer - Chassis

Volta Trucks, a hypergrowth European Electric Truck Manufacturer, is looking for a Design Engineer - Chassis to join our Chassis Engineering department. The role is flexible and will involve a blend of remote working and our UK offices in Reading/Midlands.

This is a unique opportunity to join an ambitious scale-up where you will be able to make an impact and contribute towards the short and long term product development strategy and have the opportunity to help revolutionise the commercial vehicle sector.

What you will do:

Reporting to the Lead Chassis Engineer, you will take responsibility for the design and drafting of key components and systems relating to vehicle chassis engineering across the whole Volta product range and work closely with key stakeholders and suppliers to deliver robust, safe and flexible products from initial concept through to series production.

• You will take full ownership from concept to end of production life for components and systems in the areas of chassis structures, mounting systems, cab interfaces, axel systems, steering, suspension and braking systems
•  Define and develop chassis design concepts on 3D CAD and manage chassis and CAD elements
• Create 2D drawings for all components (sub-assemblies and chassis systems) with key elements defined – dimensional detailing, GD&T and critical characteristics based on functional and safety requirements
• Initiate and carry out design releases and revision changes
• Support the vehicle build, test and development programmes to ensure targets on timing, cost, weight and performance attributes are met
• Define Bill of Materials and product structure within CAD environment
• Carry out fundamental engineering calculations to achieve robust vehicle performance and durability

We would like you to have:

• Degree qualified within Engineering – Mechanical/Automotive
• Previous experience working with 3D CAD modelling
• Knowledge and experience using CATIA (ideally v6 along with PDM systems)
• Sound understanding of BS 8888 drafting standards, GD&T definition, welding and surface finish
• Experience working within automotive manufacturing/engineering environment – preferably within chassis engineering
