Job Description

WattCarbon is hiring a PM to develop WattCarbon’s marketplace and unlock the decarbonization potential of the built environment.

About WattCarbon

WattCarbon is building the first energy transition and carbon offset market focused on the built environment. Our platform integrates real-time grid carbon intensity data with energy data from buildings, devices, and production units to quantify carbon emissions and savings. We help organizations source and manage clean energy procurement and carbon offset purchases so that they can meet their net zero commitments. Our vision is to become the foundational marketplace that drives the $10 trillion in capital required for decarbonizing energy use in buildings in the United States.

The Company You Will Join

We are an early stage startup. You would be the first person in your role and the ninth full-time team member. We are open to any applicant who lives in the US - you should be comfortable working in a fully distributed, remote-first company. Our team lives in three different cities (and one RV). We prioritize personal growth and professional satisfaction and encourage applications from individuals who want to have an outsized impact on a consequential problem. As we are a small company, there is significant room for leadership opportunities as we grow.

The Team You Will Join

You will report to the Head of Operations and work closely with and be supported by peers in the engineering department.

What You’ll Do

  • Drive iterative product development across the entire product life cycle
  • Work closely with customers to understand their needs and the business value of our products
  • Serve as the user advocate; convey functional process requirements to technical audiences through detailed product specifications, business rationale, and use cases
  • Work with internal teams to deliver solutions that improve customer success and provide tangible value
  • Partner with the Engineering team through technical discussions, Agile/Scrum sprint execution, quarterly planning, and backlog prioritization
  • Influence the product roadmap by articulating the business value, vision, and technical rationale of product options supported with analytics and research
  • Collect and analyze quantitative data and qualitative research to inform product development; identify, prioritize, and iterate on product opportunities as well as existing features
  • Plan product launches, collaborate with stakeholders on marketing activities, documentation, support requests, and sales enablement
  • Become an expert in sustainable energy and carbon accounting in order to understand our customers

What You’ll Need

  • Experience as a PM at a fast-paced company focused on marketplaces, SaaS, or fintech, (and previous experience with data integrations will be extra helpful)
  • Familiarity with building, supporting, and managing complex, scalable software services
  • A track record of distilling complex and ambiguous problems into actionable plans
  • Ability to gather, research, and analyze data from multiple sources (market data, customer services, sales) and subsequently define business requirements and MVPs
  • Cross-functional knowledge and ability to participate in technical discussions with engineers as well as discuss complex financial marketplace products with non-technical customers
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and presentation skills to identify needs, explain features, articulate decisions, and gain alignment to drive projects forward
  • Active listening skills and a level of curiosity to elicit and understand customer business challenges
  • A collaborative approach and an ability to build strong cross-functional partnerships
  • Intellectual curiosity, self awareness, and ability to learn quickly and adapt
  • Sustainable finance knowledge is a plus
  • Interest in developing a deep understanding of US energy infrastructure and building decarbonization to help advance WattCarbon solutions

Company Culture

Our company values trust, communication, and consistency

In our day-to-day work, we operate with a high degree of trust for each other and communicate when decisions are unclear. Our management team meets weekly to ensure consistency across product and process decisions, then conveys a shared vision to the rest of the team. We hold planning meetings on Tuesdays, company-wide meetings on Fridays, and cross-team 1:1s and ad-hoc meetings in between to keep ourselves on the same page.

We take our time when we do work, as we want to provide ourselves with learning opportunities and room to improve processes as we develop new areas of the company. We are committed to treating mistakes as learning events and assuming best intentions. We prefer to spend our energy improving collective processes rather than seeking blame.

We share our successes, stresses, and mistakes as a team and celebrate individual contributions. Each week before the company-wide meeting, we write individual agenda items, progress updates, and cheers to give everyone space to discuss what they feel is important.

Salary and Benefits

We have targeted a salary range for this role of $120,000 to $145,000 plus company equity. We have a full benefits package that includes medical coverage and unlimited PTO.

Next Steps

To apply, please submit a resume and cover letter to recruiting@wattcarbon.com. We’re a small company, so we really value what you have to say. Tell us about yourself and how you see your career progressing, and answer at least one of the following questions: What kinds of problems interest you? What makes you a good fit for an early-stage company? How do you go about growing your career skills?
