Job Description

Company Description

Systemiq, the systems change company and certified B Corp, was founded to drive the achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Paris Agreement on climate change by transforming markets and business models in five key systems: nature and food, materials, and circular economy, energy, urban areas, and sustainable finance.

We are guided by the conviction that all system transformations are rooted in human transformations. We must continue to bring more diverse people and voices into real conversations to succeed. We know we don’t have all the answers; we may not even have all the right questions. But we know that open mindsets drive change, so relationships, people, and trust are at the heart of everything we do.

The Mission Possible Partnership (MPP)

The Mission Possible Partnership was formed to supercharge efforts to decarbonize some of the world’s highest emitting industries in order to place them on a trajectory to net zero by 2050 aligned with a 1.5 degree scenario.

Our mission is to unlock a first wave of deep decarbonisation projects before 2025 and inspire a second wave of projects before 2030 across seven high-emitting sectors – aluminum, chemicals, concrete, steel, aviation, shipping, and trucking. We support the most ambitious industry leaders – the “doers” – by mobilizing their customers, their suppliers, their capital providers, and key policy makers to create the required operational and economic value chain conditions to unlock investment.

In 2023 and beyond, the Mission Possible Partnership is focused on scaling up key value chains in the hard to abate sectors by helping commercial scale infrastructure projects to Final Investment Decision (FID). To do this, it is establishing a series of value chain coalitions and helping companies on an individual basis to bring about the required operational and economic conditions to unlock investment. The Chemicals (PM) will have the following responsibilities and expertise

Position

Key Responsibilities

Project management:

  • Lead on strategic thinking and use consulting skillset to structure solutions to complex problems
  • Oversee techno-economic analysis of projects
  • Manage projects, including work planning, deliverable definition and troubleshooting, stakeholder engagement and client management
  • Managing and developing junior team members, identifying key development points to coach them to the next level

Content knowledge:

  • Expertise in the technologies used in the production of e-fuels for aviation & shipping, sustainable feedstock for chemicals, plastics, fertilisers and other end-use chemical applications. Good understanding of traditional fossil fuel driven production infrastructure.
  • Deep understanding of the role of the chemicals sector in economy-wide decarbonization transition
  • Awareness of the technologies, emissions, economics and deployment considerations (e.g. feedstock limitations) associated with the value chains around low-carbon fuels and chemicals
  • Awareness of economic, strategic, environmental and political factors associated with commercial scale up of low-carbon chemicals production
  • Ideally experience with or in major industry players who are active in chemical decarbonization technologies

Coalition partner acquisition:

  • Ability to craft a clear and simple articulation of the MPP value proposition in the chemicals value chain
  • Ability to leverage own and MPP’s network to engage potential coalition members, lead introductory meetings and secure engagement
  • Oversight and delivery of onboarding process for coalition participants
  • Operation of coalition secretariat, involving definition of workplan, alignment with coalition members, sourcing feedback and input from coalition members, liaising with external stakeholders and integrating MPP central functions into the coalition activities (e.g. policy workstream)

Requirements

  • Graduate degree in a relevant field, (e.g. chemistry, chemical engineering, natural science, environmental science)
  • 6+ years of professional services or industry experience
  • Proven track record of relationship management
  • Prior knowledge of climate and energy transition issues

Diversity & Inclusion

We believe that diversity and inclusion are at the heart of system change and the mission we have set ourselves. So we commit ourselves to:

  • Embedding diverse and inclusive ways of working from day to day. This includes recruitment, performance management, and people processes and policies.
  • Providing a supportive environment. We want people to be themselves and be at their best, regardless of their background, personality, gender, sexual orientation, race, mental health, religion, or other characteristics.
  • Enabling a long-term, sustainable approach to work and life more generally. We want to support our people at all stages of their lives – as parents or caregivers, through changing life circumstances – and to accommodate personal priorities where they matter most.
