This position will be a key member of Ascend Analytics’ Market Intelligence team, which supports all long-term valuation activities at Ascend, working in project finance, utility planning, project development, and market strategy. The role will require applying knowledge of energy markets while mentoring junior staff, ensuring delivery of high-quality analysis and work products, and improving internal processes. We’d like someone who brings a passion for the energy sector, knowledge of power markets, client-facing experience, an ability to see the big picture, and a desire to have an impact.

Job Responsibilities: 

• Apply knowledge of wholesale power markets to guide forecast development, analytics activities, and consulting projects for the Market Intelligence team 
• Manage the activities of a team of junior and senior analysts, ensuring on-time delivery of work products 
• Identify and oversee opportunities for process improvement and streamlining  
• Oversee consulting activities and ensure high-quality client-facing deliverables  

Required Skills & Experience:  

• BS or MS in Engineering, economics, applied mathematics, or a related quantitative field 
• 4+ years experience in US power markets 
• Experience guiding/overseeing the work of junior colleagues 
• Experience holding independent responsibility for delivery of final work products 
• Familiarity with programming techniques for data processing and analysis in any language and strong skills in Microsoft Excel 
• Highly organized and able to balance competing priorities 
• Strong interpersonal skills, teamwork skills, and work ethic 
• Ability to communicate with impact and confidence, both orally and in writing 

Preferred Skills & Experience  

• Graduate degree, preferably with a focus on energy 
• Consulting or client-facing experience 
• Experience performing independent research 
• People and project management experience 
• Experience in energy project finance or power market forecasting  

Compensation: $120,000-$160,000 

Negotiable based on qualifications and experience. Ascend highly values our employees and often pays above industry average.
