Job Description

Job title: Product Manager

Location: London, Lisbon, Edinburgh, Bristol (including hybrid)

Part time available? Yes up to 80%

Salary: £45,000 - £70,000

Length of fixed term contract: 12 months

Kaluza wants to power a world where net-zero is within everyone’s reach, by building the platform that will accelerate a sustainable, affordable and resilient energy transition. It’s a huge challenge, but often the toughest problems are the most rewarding to solve.

Since launching in 2019, Kaluza’s technology has been empowering some of the biggest energy suppliers to better serve millions of customers.

From revolutionising billing to smart electric vehicle charging, our real-time cloud platforms transform supplier operations, reducing cost to serve and boosting engagement. And most importantly, they enable suppliers' customers to drive decarbonisation with smart, low carbon technologies.

Where in the world of Kaluza will I be working?

You’ll be joining the Kaluza Product community. We’re a group of Product Managers and Leaders focused on translating complex needs into simple and innovative solutions that solve real customer and business problems.

You’ll be working on the Kaluza’s Energy Retail platform. This is a SaaS technology platform that aims to revolutionise the operating platforms for energy retailers globally. This platform has been built with scale and technical quality in mind and is the foundation for decarbonisation efforts by Kaluza’s customers.

What will I be doing?

The role includes all the normal product management things, such as product strategy, discovery, talking to our users, analysing data, defining goals, etc.. It also involves working closely with our great team of engineers, designers, and content writers to do all of the above and get value in the hands of our users.

The API experience team is part of Kaluza’s retail platform, and it is brand new, so you’ll have the opportunity to shape the team, its ways of working, and its product strategy from scratch. Its aim is to improve the Kaluza API integration experience, and make sure both internal and external developers have everything they need to interact with our API products - it acts as the glue between our APIs and our users. In practical terms, this means ensuring Kaluza developers have a place to register and surface their data externally, and client developers can easily access any data they need. At the moment the team is responsible for the Content Management System (CMS) behind Kaluza’s external documentation site, as well as a suite of tools Kaluza developers use to expose and document data with our platform APIs. This is a great opportunity to collaborate with other teams to improve the end to end Kaluza integration journey.

Is this the job for me?

Ideally you’ll have/be

  • User experience mindset: The products you will build have a bias towards frontend and user experience (UX), so we’re looking for someone comfortable working with content writers, designers, and user researchers to think about their users’ journey using their products. Experience with frontend products and frameworks like customer journey mapping will make a difference for this role
  • Technical mindset: API and data products can get fairly technical, so we would like to see that you can not only understand but also shape what these products need to look like to meet their user’s needs
  • Passionate: Having previous experience as a product manager will be an advantage, but it is not a must have. The most important thing we’ll look for is your passion for product management and your drive to have a positive impact on users.
  • Collaborative and influential: This team is building products that are both B2B2C and platform, as it has two main user types: external developers, and internal developers. It’s not the easiest type of product management, and so it needs someone collaborative who can influence people outside of their team to shape and adopt their products.
  • Strong communicator: As a product manager, you spend a lot of time in meetings to make sure people are aligned, so we need someone who can take it. Importantly, it doesn’t mean you should be an extrovert. There are lots of different ways to communicate with others, all we need to see is that you are excited about making a difference by listening and talking to people everyday.
  • Organised: Product managers usually have a lot of competing priorities on their todo list, so we need someone efficient, who can self organise, and who can prioritise and manage their workload effectively even in busy periods.
  • Rigorous but scrappy: We’re a start up, just about to move to a scaling up phase. That means we need to work fast, but intentionally. Our product managers are ruthless in prioritising the work their teams deliver, and promote fast learning and iterative ways of building instead of multi-month discovery cycles and perfection.
  • Comfortable with data: Being comfortable looking at data but also enthusiastic about using it to inform your product decisions is vital.
  • Resilient to change: Because we are still early in our journey, things tend to go faster than in large, well established companies. And that also means things change quickly, so we need someone who can adapt and embrace change.
