One of Terawatt's Core Values is "Electrify the Customer". Terawatt is looking for a Staff Electrical Engineer to help create the best and most reliable EV charging solution in North America. This role is a key position to set the strategy for Terawatt's charging stations while choosing the right electrical layout to make our sites highly efficient.
In this role, you will provide leadership and participate in strategic EVSE hardware partner selection, EV <> EVSE <> CMS automated testing, and vehicle OEM interoperability testing. In addition, you will engage with utility partners and vendors to deliver site power efficiency solutions through existing and emerging technologies. Your passion for world-class EV charging systems allows you to lead by example - live, breathe, and eat high-powered systems. Working with the Head of Construction and our SVP of Technology, you will work with a small team of EVSE Validation Engineers, and over time, engage with the broader software, data, and operations teams who will look to you as the technical leader for all things electrical.
This position is critical in leading the creation of a world-class charging experience for our fleet customers. The team's role is to ensure that Terawatt's selected charging systems operate with maximum uptime while delivering a seamless customer experience. Core Responsibilities:
- Work with the Development, Construction, Energy teams to implement the hardware and partner closely Technology team to help determine the best hardware partners for Terawatt’s charging sites
- Provide technical leadership to qualify, monitor and build partnerships with EVSE hardware vendors
- Build and execute strategies for interoperability for our different EVSE partners and the vehicles that will use our charging infrastructure
- Work with Field Service to help resolve complex hardware and electrical-related problems for Terawatt's fleet customers.
- Work on existing and upcoming standards engagements and compliance.
- Monitor systems and manage energy usage for each site, implementing changes when needed based on readings
- Identify new solutions to improve the efficiency of our sites
- Manage engineering outputs for multiple projects with competing deadlines and resources
- Report to management regularly on engineering progress and setbacks and participate in regular meetings to communicate progress and expectations to all stakeholders in a timely and clear manner
- Research, obtain and apply critical design information including building and electrical code requirements to site design
- Ensure deliverables meet high quality standards
- Be a principal evangelist for the electrification of transport, and the Company’s role in making it happen
Preferred Qualifications:
- 3+ years experience in the EV ecosystem
- 6+ years experience in dense electrical infrastructure
- Familiarity with Vehicle electrification, EV charging infrastructure, Clean energy electrification (solar, wind, geothermal, nuclear, etc.), Power grid development, Substations & Microgrids, and/or Solid state transformation
- Demonstrable skills in technical strategy, organization, problem solving, and complex root cause analysis.
- Hands on construction experience preferred but not required
- Deep understanding of dispatchable on-site power generation, solid state transformers, substation relay and control and other aspects of power distribution systems.
- Electrical Engineering in power electronics background or similar demonstrable electrical engineering experience
- Knowledge of safety practices and procedures and EMI requirements related to high-power applications.
- Entrepreneurial spirit with a “think outside the box” mindset in designing creative solutions for customers in an emerging and dynamic field
