The role

We are seeking an experienced, daring, and highly-organised PR & Communications Lead to join us as a co-traveller on our own mission to protect the natural systems of Planet Earth.

We want someone who is a thinker and a doer, who knows how to get sh*t done in a fast-paced and flexible startup environment, and will bring ideas to the table that might even scare us.

You’ll be working closely with our Go-to-market Lead and two of our co-founders. The role is for 3 days a week and we prefer if you live within 3 hours of UK timezone.

With clients like PepsiCo, Unilever, and Sky, and a fresh round of investment on board, here’s a chance to become an integral and formative part of a fast-paced, rapidly growing project.

What you’ll be doing

Your mission will be to raise the profile of AimHi Earth. Starting with the personal brands of our co-founders Sarah (Sustainability & ESG) and Matt (Learning & Behaviour change)...unless you challenge us otherwise!

How you do this work will be something you co-design with us, however tasks likely to make up your universe include:

  • Leading on PR and press initiatives.
  • Sourcing and masterminding opportunities for podcasts, interviews, conferences etc.
  • Nurturing and expanding upon our existing relationships with influential supporters.
  • Ensuring that our creative output gets to the right audiences.

What you’ll need

We’re looking for a dynamo – not just someone who has “done X years” and “ticked Y boxes”.

However, there are a number of qualities that will be essential for this role, including:

  • A love of and deep curiosity for humans (i.e. outstanding relationship-building abilities).
  • Strategic experience in seeking out and planning media and PR opportunities.
  • Proven ability to considerately and effectively leverage a pre-existing network of contacts.
  • An understanding of and ability to speak to the pain points of businesses, funders, institutions and more conservative thinkers than the climate space normally speaks to.

Furthermore, qualities that are essential for all of our roles include:

  • Initiative and self-starting, to take ownership over the role and rapidly make it your own.
  • Ability to work effectively as a team – to rapidly understand the assignment, and to collaborate well with others to get it done, learn from it and improve it.
  • Ability to work well autonomously, particularly as a remote worker – discipline, self-motivation, managing your time effectively.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to approach challenges critically, ask good questions and find innovative solutions by yourself and with others.

Nice to haves

  • Strong, pre-existing network of contacts with press, media, podcasters, conferences etc.
  • An in-depth understanding of AimHi Earth's operating environment, including organisational training/education/CPD, ESG and CSR, sustainability and regeneration, communications.
  • Writing skills - to move quickly at times and get things out without our copywriter network.
  • A strong sense of high-quality design, and experience of collaboration with design teams.

How we work

We trust and admire one another, and we all share the same mission of turning around the climate and nature emergency through enabling the world to better understand it, the barriers to change and the growing range of solutions.

We have 20+ people working remotely around the world, with whom we have regular check-ins to devise and coordinate ambitious plans, and to find solutions to our problems.

We aim to help all of our team members to do their best work, be themselves, and ultimately feel energised most of the time, so here are some of our perks:

  • Flexible hours
  • Remote working with an international team, and friendly, respectful, values-based culture
  • One week together in person per quarter (costs covered)
  • Generous holiday leave (25 days pro-rata + local bank holidays)
  • Flexible annual wellbeing and professional development budget
  • Workplace Pension Scheme in NEST’s ethical pension fund (UK-based)
  • Monthly social events and volunteering opportunities
  • Access to co-working facilities

On remote work

Remote work is not for everyone. With it comes freedom, but also isolation. Some enjoy remote work where others do not. Some like global video calls where others find them hollow.

We are a group of people who thrive from freedom and diversity, connect well over calls, and love to be working in synchronicity with people around the world.

You will not get those water-cooler moments, nor those Friday afternoons at the pub with us. You will get a hugely dedicated, diligent team of smart, dynamic people, ambitious about changing the world for the better, and always ready to talk with one another. Like us, you will be inspired by your colleagues (as we hope to be by you), and you will likely make life-long friends. But if you are worried that you may want more day-to-day, in-person interactions with the people you work with, then a role with us is likely not for you.

How to apply

Please apply to this role via Climatebase by 5th November '23. You will be asked to provide:

  • Your CV
  • What excites you about working with us
  • Links to appropriate campaigns/projects/materials that you’ve worked on
  • When you’d be available to start
  • How you found out about this role/AimHi Earth

We are especially keen to encourage applications and interest from individuals underrepresented in our organisation and sector. Applicants outside of the UK

We are able to consider people outside of the UK and we may have to reflect some of the added cost of doing so by offering you a lower salary than listed at the top of this role advert.
