Job Description

Hardware Engineering, APAC

Remote, APAC with substantial travel to manufacturing hubs such as Shenzhen and Huizhou, China, and our team in San Francisco, California.

About us:

We’re Impulse. We’re a team of engineers, designers, and innovators based in San Francisco who believe making good decisions for your home and the environment should not come at a cost to your lifestyle. We’re dedicated to building delightful, high-performance products for everyday needs that enable rewarding, long-term, scalable solutions for whole-home electrification.

We're looking for individuals excited to join an early-stage, VC-backed growing company with powerful aspirations to make positive change in a major industry - come build with us!

What you’ll be doing:

  • This is a hybrid-remote role designed to drive alignment and coordination between our mostly Bay Area engineering team and various APAC-based manufacturing partners.

  • The role supports the executive team and engineering and operations leaders in ensuring technical delivery of the product and core subsystems and modules, up to and including working on detailed design.

  • Serving as the executive team’s eyes into the detailed design and manufacturing process.

  • Working closely with the whole team during product definition and development –including in-person collaboration both in China and San Francisco.

  • Managing manufacturer-built first prototypes and DOEs.

  • Supporting factory builds in an engineering capacity.

  • Shepherding volume manufacturing for a new product category.

  • Supporting the GSM team during vendor visits.

Who you are:

  • Able to cross technology domains to produce clever solutions that scale.

  • Experienced in working in person with Chinese manufacturers, particularly in consumer, energy, or automotive domains.

  • Experienced with hardware operations and working with a broader technical program management team.

  • Familiarity with consumer electronics development and manufacturing (appliance or battery experience not required but a plus).

  • Experienced working with colleagues and external partners to develop constraints and specifications collaboratively - software, mechanical, thermal, manufacturing, and others.

  • Excited about being able to operate with substantial freedom.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication in both English and Mandarin, with proficiency in technical terminology relating to engineering and manufacturing.

What you have:

  • Engineering degree or related experience in volume hardware.

  • Track record of delivering designs and products on time, on budget, complete and correct.

  • History of successful engagements with external design and manufacturing partners.

  • Fluency in both English and Mandarin Chinese.

  • Openness to substantial travel within Mainland China and the US.

This is a contract role by one of our staffing partners.
