Role Description

The Cell Engineering team within the Technology group at Form is multidisciplinary and focused on delivering qualified battery cell designs that meet operational performance targets, at cost and with high reliability, from controlled processes on high-volume manufacturing lines for Form Energy's utility-scale multi-day energy storage system.

We're hiring an experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager to lead our Cell Engineering Design team in Berkeley, CA. This team is focused on the mechanical design of key components and assemblies in our iron-air battery cell and will work in close collaboration with module and systems-level mechanical engineering teams. This role involves managing a team of engineers and coordinating build support activities on pilot manufacturing lines in Berkeley, CA, and Weirton, WV. The ideal candidate is a player-coach with demonstrated experience effectively managing direct reports, growing a well-rounded engineering team, mentoring, and conducting performance reviews. Additionally, the ideal candidate possesses expertise in designing mechanical assemblies composed of low-cost metal and plastic components, with experience in high-volume manufacturing. What you'll do:

• Manage and grow a world-class team of mechanical engineers that deliver on key objectives toward advancing Form Energy’s cell and module product development efforts

• Lead the product development process and mechanical design of components within Form Energy’s iron-air battery cell

• Provide thought leadership in and drive execution of new mechanical design and prototyping campaigns for components and assemblies

• Partner with manufacturing engineers and supply chain to release design packages for high volume production

• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of battery, chemical, and electrical engineers to define battery cell design requirements

What you'll bring:

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field; Bachelor's with 7+ years, or Master's with 5+ years with industry experience

• Well-developed experience designing mechanical components and assemblies for high-volume manufacture in a hardware product development company

• Demonstrated experience leading, managing, and mentoring direct reports

• Expert mechanical design engineer

• Expert in new product development for high-volume manufacturing

• Experience implementing design for manufacturing & assembly (DFMA) principles

• Experience in batteries, energy storage, or similar is a plus

• Strong technical communication skills, especially with external parties and across internal functional teams
