Summary

Due to our continued growth, YASA is looking for a Head of Health & Safety to manage our Health & Safety function across the business. We are looking for a Head of Health & Safety to take responsibility for HSE strategy as the business continues to expand across its multiple sites. You will be working in a lead role being responsible for all aspects of HSE work within the company, across multiple sites. You will focus on building a positive H&S culture across the business as well as monitoring areas of non-compliance or opportunities to reduce risk. You will be the lead for all H&S strategy, policies, procedures, legal obligations, and training whilst maintaining a problem-solving approach.

 

  • Promoting a positive Health & Safety culture across the manufacturing and office sites, encouraging staff to adopt and comply with current safety legislation and ensuring policies are adhered to.
  • Conducting HSE inspections, site inspections, risk assessments and compliance audits in line with the business strategy, and supporting effective close out of any actions arising.
  • Management of the H&S strategy, developing internal policies, and preparing summary reports for the Board.
  • Writing of QHSE standards/procedures for inclusion within a safety and environmental management system.
  • Manage and maintain the HSE committee reviewing audits, HSE policies, working practices, and safety procedures.
  • Interface with regulatory authorities and insurers on key matters such as fire risk assessment and certification, emergency planning and safety improvement plans.
  • Providing managers and employees with information on legislative and corporate compliance, advising on ways of meeting statutory requirements and Corporate HSE Policies, HSE guidance and codes of practice.
  • Responsible for overseeing all HSE training to help our employees meet compliance and raise HSE responsibility. Leading or sourcing training as required, working with the L&D Coordinator to ensure the effective role of out training needs.
  • Ensuring our Property & Facilities are safe and compliant, including adherence to all Health and Safety requirements, legislation, and company standards.
  • Managing supplier and contractual relationships across H&S ensuring they meet our quality standards.
  • Taking the lead on environmental standards and management system, promoting an environmentally conscious approach to work.
  • Lead by example and mentor and motivate your team to deliver a positive H&S culture as well as excellent facilities.
  • Providing support and data to the Quality Team with ISO audits and compliance.
  • Keeping up to date with new legislation and maintaining a high-level knowledge of HSE legislation and any changes that may affect the business.

 

To succeed in this role, we believe you'll need:

  • NEBOSH Diploma/NCRQ Diploma or equivalent, i.e. NVQ Level 5 or 6 or accredited degree.
  • Strong knowledge and experience of auditing and membership of the IIRSM
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering effective health and safety management within an engineering/manufacturing environment.
  • Experience in conducting accident investigations and health and safety inspections/audits.
  • Flexible in their approach to work, desire to thrive in a dynamic and exciting fast-moving environment.
  • Ability to operate under own cognisance and, on occasion, with limited information.
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal), good collaboration skills, and the ability to work effectively across teams.
  • Organised and self-motivated with the determination to succeed.
  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Demonstrable experience in monitoring and analysis of an HSE management system performance.
  • Experience and knowledge of ISO9001 and ISO14001.

 

Though not expected, it would be very beneficial if you have:

  • Experience in managing HSE across multi-site facilities.
  • Experience working within a Tier 1 supplier environment.
