About the Role

The Senior Mechanical Process Engineer works closely with teams located in the US, Taiwan and China throughout the design cycle with early engagement prior prototype release. As a member of the PE team, you will be responsible for leading and influencing the technical development of mechanical part manufacturing processes, providing process and design recommendations to the team (PE, ID, PD, TPM and commodity), driving engineering studies, and improving part yield rate with cost reduction. You will be responsible and accountable for closely monitoring and driving the above activities at any assigned suppliers or sites.

In addition, you will work closely with the Technical Program Manager (TPM) and multiple teams on giving timely feedback of technical risk, and continuous communication of the status of engineering issues throughout the product development cycle to a cross functional audience.

The Role:

  • You are trusted and respected in your area of expertise and have credibility with others based on your accomplishments.
  • You shall use your specialized domain knowledge and expertise to provide technical leadership to influence decisions with significant impact to SPIN and partners with long term gains to SPIN.
  • As a hands-on technical engineer, you play a lead role in the manufacturing process know-how, implementation and deployment, and are accountable for significant portions of the product or process in cross functional projects.
  • Within the PE team, you exert technical influence over multiple teams’ inclusive suppliers, increasing their knowledge, productivity and effectiveness by sharing your broad knowledge and experience in the areas of your expertise.
  • Identify and develop mechanical part manufacturing and decorative processes especially the area of your expertise, where the team will adopt your engineering practices as best practices. You seek to drive a common direction for multiple technology areas taking into account efficiency, risk, cost and yield.
  • Be able to identify “critical processes” and their “critical tooling and fixtures” to have a qualification path.
  • The general understanding of a Senior PE’s roles and responsibilities is critical. Areas to cover are reviewing, developing and approving tooling, part/sub-assembly process flow, including process fixture concept, DFM, FAI/CMK etc, inclusive risk assessment lead time, yield and cost
  • You relentlessly simplify. You have the ability to dissecting complex problems with creative, simple and straightforward solutions
  • You keep abreast of industry trends. You effectively research, propose, champion and promote new ideas that guide the next generation product manufacturing with significant creativity while benchmarking it against other competitions in the industry.
  • Travel domestically and internationally to supplier sites as and when required.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 10+ years’ experience in Mechanical Design, Manufacturing or Tooling Engineering
  • Experience in any or two of the fields:
    • Mechanical design, Plastic Molding, including knowledge of IMD, Double Shot, and Insert Molding
    • Metal processing e.g. extrusion, CNC
    • High Quality Finishing, including knowledge of polishing, plating, painting, coating, metallization and laser etch
    • Production Process Qualification, Measurement, and Analysis
  • Experience in High Volume Production
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills including working knowledge of data analysis and statistics e.g. DOE.
  • Have proven failure analysis experience
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including effective presentation of complex data
  • Experience working onsite with manufacturers and suppliers
  • Familiarity with Pro/Engineer and MS office suite
  • Fluent in English and Chinese / Mandarin

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced technical degree
  • Familiar with statistical analysis and processing tools
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Knowledge of all phases of product development lifecycle
  • Hands on experience in key manufacturing processes
