Job title: Markets Manager

Reporting to: Deputy Head, India Programme

Salary: L4 band - 3,000,000 INR

CBI Mission:

Climate Bonds Initiative is an investor-focused NGO working to mobilise the $100 trillion global bond market for climate change solutions. We promote investment in projects and assets necessary for a rapid transition to a low carbon and climate resilient economy.

Our main workstreams are green bond standards and certification, data and market analysis, policy and market development, communications and advocacy.

Climate Bonds is a fast growing, dynamic NGO driven by a big mission. You will be working within an organisation that is leading the development of innovative international climate finance solutions.

Regional context:

We are ambitiously pursuing the creation of a large sustainable finance market in South Asia, with a special focus on India. This cuts across pursuing growth opportunities in diverse economic sectors, types of issuers, investors and lenders across themes of green, transition and resilience finance.  Our current projects also cater to transition finance focussed on high emitting and hard to abate sectors and cover financial institutions and banks. The focus is on developing and deepening labelled bonds and loans market, building and implementing an investor engagement strategy covering domestic and international investors, spotting strategic opportunities amongst new category of issuers and instruments, building the know-how within the team and within stakeholder groups on state of the sustainable debt market to drive the ecosystem towards sustainable finance and amplifying our impact through partnerships and market stakeholder engagement. Market development will also require scaling up certified issuances and building strategies (for example, with verifiers) to widen the net of certifications by volume as well as number. These targets are part of the India strategy. While the role primarily focuses on market engagement and development, it also requires the candidate to demonstrate initiative and the ability to independently conduct high-quality research projects from both a market and policy perspective.

The Role

The Climate Bonds Initiative is seeking an experienced and qualified individual for market engagement and development, who will also contribute to market and policy research.

What you'll be doing:

  • Proactively monitor and analyse market and policy developments including regulatory changes in the domestic/international ecosystem at the sectoral level related to sustainable finance, climate risk, transition, and resilience.
  • Identify emerging market/policy/regulatory trends and developments, advising on strategic responses and opportunities for the organization.
  • Create market/policy briefs, detailed reports, and engaging presentations to share research findings and recommendations with key stakeholders.
  • Guide a team of analysts in exploring market/policy/regulatory research, market products, and allied activities affecting sustainable finance and climate risk.
  • Manage research projects from inception to completion, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and meaningful outcomes.
  • Mentor and develop junior research staff, fostering a culture of continuous learning and excellence within the team.
  • Engage with issuers, borrowers, investors, lenders, investment bankers, and other multipliers to amplify impact through stakeholder engagement and potential partnerships.
  • Assist, develop and deploy an engagement strategy targeting strategic stakeholders in the public and private sectors to provide market education and build consensus on credible transition pathways and instruments in high emitting and hard to abate systems; and criteria such as that brought out by Climate Bonds taxonomy and standards.
  • Assist the development, adaptation, and deployment of transition finance materials for India's relevant industries, such as steel, cement, and chemicals sectors.
  • Support the creation of a pipeline of market development communication products and knowledge tools for dissemination of content at appropriate forums.
  • Support current projects with market engagement dimensions involving lending institutions, DFIs, and corporates (topics such as climate risks, disclosures, transition plans and finance, climate investments, lender-borrower engagement, and tailored capacity enhancement support to RBI departments as needed).
  • Represent the Climate Bonds Initiative at events, webinars or conferences to share the work on sustainable finance market creation etc.
  • Make connections and finding opportunities for CBI's wider services that include Partnerships, Training, Technical Assistance, Data and market intelligence etc.

Requirements

Essential Requirements

We'd love to hear from you if you can demonstrate the following.

  • At least 6 years’ experience in a similar role.
  • Significant and direct experience in working within financial sector in the space of public and private debt issuance, extensive knowledge of financial markets, banking and financing system.
  • Experience on engaging with high-level stakeholders and senior management.
  • Excellent relationship management skills, client management and delivery and sales
  • Highly motivated and a self-starter, ability to work independently and in a highly collaborative style with a geographically dispersed multi-cultural team.
  • Proven ability to develop and implement multi-year programme work with multiple stakeholders.
  • Proven excellent written and verbal communication skills, able to interpret complex issues for various audiences and present information in an accessible and engaging manner.
  • Flexible, and able to multi-task, prioritize and work to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to identify and analyse events that shape market/policy developments and proactively delivering high quality reports / analytical outputs with impactful and compelling messaging.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex research projects and deliver insights that drive policy or industry change.
  • Rigorous attention to detail.
  • Openness to change and ability to manage complexities.

 

Desirable Requirements

  • Master’s Degree, MBA in finance/sustainable finance or related subject
  • Knowledge in investment banking, DCM and trade finance
  • Previous experience in climate change or climate finance
  • Previous experience with sustainable policies, practices and financing
  • Knowledge of climate and sustainability risks and disclosures
  • Background in environmental economics/ infrastructure financing / Blended Finance
