Our ultimate goal with Skeleton is to build a net zero future, and our role is to make sure the world is aware of how we can help save energy, cut fuel consumption and CO2 emissions, and enable the energy transition.

Your tasks in the net zero journey:

1. Design and Development:

    • Cell Design: Creating and optimizing the design of battery cells, including the selection of materials for electrodes, electrolytes, and separators.
    • Prototyping: Developing prototypes of new battery cells and conducting initial tests to validate their performance.

2. Performance Optimisation:

    • Electrochemical Performance: Enhancing the electrochemical performance of battery cells to improve energy density, power density, charge/discharge rates, and cycle life.
    • Thermal Management: Addressing thermal issues to ensure efficient heat dissipation and prevent overheating, which can degrade battery performance and safety.

3. Testing and Evaluation:

    • Performance Testing: Conducting a wide range of tests to evaluate the performance of battery cells under different conditions, including temperature, load, and environmental factors.
    • Failure Analysis: Investigating and analysing battery cell failures to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.

4. Safety and Reliability:

    • Safety Testing: Performing rigorous safety tests to ensure battery cells meet safety standards and regulations, including abuse tests like overcharging, short-circuiting, and mechanical impacts.
    • Durability Testing: Assessing the long-term reliability and durability of battery cells under various operational conditions.

5. Manufacturing:

    • Process Development: Developing and optimising manufacturing processes for battery cells, ensuring scalability and cost-effectiveness.
    • Quality Control: Implementing quality control measures to maintain high standards in battery cell production.

6. Regulatory Compliance and Documentation:

    • Compliance: Ensuring that battery cells comply with industry standards and regulatory requirements.
    • Documentation: Preparing detailed documentation of designs, test results, and processes for regulatory submissions and internal records.

7. Sustainability and Cost Reduction:

    • Sustainable Materials: Exploring the use of sustainable and environmentally friendly materials in battery cells.
    • Cost Optimization: Working on reducing the cost of battery cells through material innovations and efficient manufacturing processes.

Requirements

  • MSc or Ph.D. in chemistry, chemical engineering, material science, or a related discipline.
  • At least 2 years of industrial experience in battery development.
  • Electrochemistry: Understanding the principles of electrochemical reactions and processes is important. Knowledge of battery chemistries, such as lithium-ion is essential.
  • Manufacturing Processes: Base knowledge of battery cell manufacturing processes, including electrode fabrication, cell assembly, and quality control techniques.
  • Innovation: Capability to develop new materials, designs, and processes to improve battery performance, energy density, safety, and cost-effectiveness.
  • Hands-on experience with electrochemical testing methods and prototype manufacturing
  • Skills in data analytics and visualization.
  • Systemic problem-solving skills.
  • You are a good team player and you have a data-driven mindset.

Any single or a combination of the following experiences/skills is a bonus:

  • Regulations and Standards: Familiarity with industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols related to battery technologies and applications.
  • Thermal Management: Understanding heat generation and dissipation within battery cells and systems, including thermal modeling and management techniques.
