Join a fast-growing company with a purpose! At Fastned, you will actively contribute to accelerating the transition to electric mobility. Together with over 250 colleagues (more than 42 nationalities) across 9+ countries, we have big plans: we are building a Europe-wide network of 1,000 beautiful fast-charging stations where electric drivers can charge their cars with energy from the sun and wind. We have recently been voted best charging network in the UK, France, and the Netherlands, a testimony to our drive to offer the best charging experience to EV drivers!

Full-time - London

Your role

As an Architect at Fastned, you contribute to the success of the company with your creative and spatial thinking, providing station designs that score the highest in customer experience and that integrate our modular Fastned station into the service areas along the highways. In the coming year, you will be strongly focused on designing and developing new locations.

You will be mainly responsible for the station design of new sites, from the initial sketch and site feasibility to liaising with planning authorities to gain approval. In addition, you will contribute to construction solutions needed by our contractors on site. You will be part of the construction visits together with our construction managers and see your beautiful projects being built! Additionally, there may be an opportunity to contribute to the development of new Fastned shops and other potential services next to our charging stations.

Your role as an Architect is crucial to our multidisciplinary team. In your day-to-day job, you will spend most of your time with our local London team, consisting of other architects, architectural technologists, expansion managers, and construction managers. Besides that, you will also be connected to our architects in other countries. Become part of a young, innovative, and growing company in the field of e-mobility! We move fast - and deliver WOW!

Key Responsibilities

The focus will be early stages of the design process - concept and planning (RIBA stages 0 to 3), but the ability to produce construction documents (Stage 4 and beyond) is also necessary when required.

  • Create initial design concepts based on the modular Fastned design standards.
  • Make site visits for initial site assessments. Check suitability of levels, access, procure survey information as necessary, and other key criteria.
  • Create full architectural drawing packages required for planning applications.
  • When necessary, produce technical drawing packages for tender and construction.
  • Coordinate with the in-house Urban Planner to provide relevant information required for planning applications, including documents such as the Design and Access Statement.
  • Create 3D visualisations using Enscape/Revit for concept pitches and planning applications.
  • Collaborate with the in-house expansion and construction teams to provide high-quality design documentation in the agreed timescale.

Who we are looking for

We are searching for a person who is willing to take responsibility from initial sketches to the execution phase of our locations in the UK. You are familiar with the importance of branding and visual identity, and you can apply traffic safety regulations in your design proposals. You are a real team player, and you have the ability to think on your own feet - you feel comfortable taking initiative and working independently. You are not afraid to make mistakes, and you are always keen to keep on learning. “Think like a founder” is something you identify easily with. Additionally, you tick the following:

  • Working experience with Revit. Familiarity with Enscape is a plus.
  • You speak (near-)native English and you have outstanding communication skills.
  • You are able to produce information accurately and on time, for the first time, according to the project programme.
  • You are able to work independently and self-critically as well as collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team; able to prioritise tasks within your own schedule and commit to deadlines.
  • You are happy to pitch in and get things done! We are a small but dynamic team of designers and do what it takes to implement our mission.
  • You are highly motivated by accelerating the energy transition and joining a fun company that is making a difference.
