The Problem

In order to meet our decarbonization goals and avoid the worst possible climate scenarios, we need to dramatically accelerate the pace of electrifying our lives. Recent landmark policy wins like the Inflation Reduction Act could make electrification affordable for most U.S. households, but program complexity holds many homeowners and contractors back.

The effort to electrify 100% of U.S. homes amounts to a series of ~100 million small construction projects, and the plumbers, electricians, solar installers, and HVAC technicians who will do this work don’t have time to identify and apply for critical incentives on behalf of their customers, especially their lower-income customers. We’re fixing that.

The Opportunity

Eli is an early-stage, venture-backed software startup at the intersection of climate and fintech, on a mission to make clean energy and electrification accessible and affordable for everyone. We build products that make it easy for contractors to offer incentives, rebates, and low-interest financing for consumer decarbonization projects. (Think heat pump HVAC systems, EV chargers, heat pump hot water heaters, insulation, solar, and battery storage, among others.)

Our software does much of the heavy lifting, but inevitably humans are needed to communicate with customers who are stuck and do the tricky work we have yet to automate.  So Eli is looking for detail-oriented, people-focused problem solvers to join our team.

Job Details

Responsibilities
  • Process rebates and income verification requests.  The bulk of your time will be spent reviewing submissions from our customers, following up on missing or incorrect entries, and submitting rebate applications.

  • Draft training materials.  You will become our in-house expert on many rebate programs across the country, and you’ll be responsible for training the rest of us up on those programs.  (Don’t worry; you don’t need to be an expert on any program today!)

  • Communicate with customers. We exist because these programs are confusing to navigate.  Our software makes them much easier to navigate, but with thousands of programs of many different shapes and sizes, delivering great customer experiences still often requires a human touch.  So you’ll be partnering with contractors and homeowners - by phone, email, and chat - to help them navigate the application process.

  • Deliver product feedback: You’re joining us early and will be talking with our customers and using our products as much as anyone on the team.  Your feedback on how we can make our products even better will be invaluable.

Requirements
  • Service orientation. Demonstrated dedication to making the lives of others easier.

  • Excellent written and oral communication. You’ll be making complex incentive programs approachable to both contractors and homeowners.

  • Organizational skills. In a given day, you might touch 100 applications or more.  Excellent attention to detail and an ability to craft and follow highly structured, technology-supported processes precisely and diligently are essential for this role.

  • Ownership mentality. Demonstrated ability to own problems from discovery to resolution. Passion for delivering high-quality user experiences.

  • Mission-driven. Enthusiasm for our mission to combat climate change and interest in the home electrification and decarbonization space.

You might be a good fit if you’re excited by:
  • A small team. We are a small, senior team that takes pride in our work.  You’ll have a handful of collaborators, but you should expect and look forward to handling some challenges without a lot of guidance.

  • Learning. You’ll quickly know more of the fine points of how electrification incentives really work than nearly anyone in the country.  We’re guessing that doesn’t describe you today, so you should be excited to learn!

  • Working remotely. We work hard during the hours that we’re working and communicate fluidly even across great geographic distances.

  • Speaking Spanish. We work with homeowners across the U.S., so both Spanish and English are essential to communicating effectively.

What We Offer
  • Competitive Salary: We use high-quality benchmarking and market data to ensure our salaries are above the 75th percentile based on a candidate’s location and seniority, as well as our company’s stage. For this role, a successful candidate will likely earn $55,000-$72,000.

  • Equity: Early employee equity package.

  • Health Benefits: Generous health benefits (top-tier medical, dental, and vision).

  • Time Off: Flexible time off (minimum 3 weeks!).

  • Remote Work: Remote work with at least 2 in-person gatherings per year, plus a budget to co-work to solve thorny problems.

  • Empowerment: Empowered team members with minimal bureaucracy.

  • Welcoming Environment: A welcoming work environment where humility, honesty, and humor are highly valued.

  • Flexible, Family-Friendly Work Schedules: Flexibility to work at a startup and manage personal commitments.

Eli is proud to have a “no negotiation” compensation policy. We believe it is on us to do our homework, understand your expectations as part of the interview process, and ensure we are offering a competitive salary for every position. A growing body of evidence suggests that allowing for negotiation exacerbates pay disparities and simply rewards good negotiators. There’s also evidence that women and people of color are less likely to negotiate. We want everybody on our team to feel well-compensated and on track to meet their financial goals, so if you get an offer from us, you can be assured it’s the best offer we can make.
