One Tree Planted is a US-based 501(c)(3) non-profit focused on global reforestation. POSITION PURPOSE:
The Philanthropy Officer – Major Gifts focuses on cultivating new and renewed Major Gift donor relationships at the $25k and up level to further One Tree Planted mission and programs through stewardship and tailored solicitation strategies.


Reporting Relationships

  • Reports to our Director, Philanthropy


ESSENTIAL FUNCTION

Donor relationship management (70%):

  • Manage an assigned portfolio of approximately 150-200 donors capable of giving at the $25k and up level to cultivate, renew and upgrade current Major Donors, all to foster long-term relationships.
  • Arrange and attend in-person meetings with donors and prospects for Executive Leadership (CEO, CDO and CPO). Must be willing to travel up to 25% of the time.
  • Research and identify Major Gift prospects both within our existing donor base and outside.
    • Can include utilizing tools such as RocketReach, iWave, LinkedIn and other platforms.
    • Oversee the ongoing identification, monitoring and evaluation of a prospect’s capacity level as well as their readiness to give.
  • Create (with the support of Marketing and Communications team) and edit donor communications including solicitation proposals, meeting requests, meeting follow-ups, presentations, acknowledgments, and letters.
  • Maintain complete and orderly records of donors in the Salesforce CRM, ensuring regular donor communications.
  • Ensure appropriate stewardship of all donors in your pipeline, including customized recognition strategies.
  • Attend events and conferences as assigned, promoting the awareness of the organization.
  • Work with the Director, Philanthropy to understand funding priorities, campaigns, and projects to determine alignment
    with potential donors.
  •  Work with Officer, Annual Giving to identify and engage potential Major Gift donors.


Program Development (10%):

  • Collaborate with the development team and organizational leadership to set annual Major Gift goals and develop plans to achieve them.
  • Track and report on progress towards goals, adjusting strategies as needed to meet targets.
  • Collaborate with other teams at the organization to support Director, Philanthropy in the development of compelling
    campaigns and giving opportunities.
  • Strategize with development leadership on ways to renew or cultivate new donations and relationships
  • Support the Director, Philanthropy to implement a major gift strategy to grow a donor base and secure funding.
  • Database Management (10%):
  • Maintain accurate donor records in Salesforce.
  • Keep track of donor interaction history to personalize communications and stewardship.
  • Work with the CRM team to ensure reports are being pulled to properly analyze data and inform donor fundraising
    strategies.

Internal Meetings (5%):

  •  Development/team meetings as needed
  • Weekly Philanthropy team meeting
  • Weekly meeting 1-1 with Director, Philanthropy
    POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
  • EDUCATION: BACHELOR’S DEGREE or acceptable combination of equivalent experience
  • RELATED EXPERIENCE: Minimum three years experience with a proven success record in fundraising or other non-profit donor-facing
    experience. 
  • Experience developing donor relationships, from identification to stewardship.
  • Experience managing a caseload of active gift prospects and implementing strategies for solicitation of these prospects.
  • Demonstrated experience in consistently meeting deadlines/deliverables and standards for quality work.
  • Experience using a CRM system. Knowledge of Salesforce is a plus.
  • A passion for the environment!
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • IDEAL LOCATION: It would be ideal if the candidate is based on the West Coast of the US, particularly in or near a major city in California, although this is not a requirement and is considered an asset.


COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
COMPENSATION: typical starting range is $74,000 to $100,000 USD which will be based on skills and experience. Annual performance increase may be available but not guaranteed.
