About the Power Resources Team

MCE’s Power Resources team is responsible for building a portfolio of clean resources to meet needs of the customers and reliability of the grid. This team focuses on meeting MCE’s renewable energy and greenhouse gas free (GHG-free) targets. The power resources team negotiates and manages MCE’s Power Purchase and Energy Storage Agreements and Feed-in Tariff program. The effective work of this team has allowed us to reinvest in renewable energy projects within MCE’s service area that create family-sustaining green-collar jobs.

As a Power Procurement Analyst 

This role is a temporary 6 month assignment

You will have the ability to conduct economic, policy and/or technical analyses and research to support MCE’s Power Resources department on a wide range of issues including but not limited to project management, report generation, data review, and data visualization. This position may support with the preparation of certain regulatory compliance reports related to procurement, integrated resources planning (IRP), annual greenhouse gas emissions reporting, Renewable Portfolio Standard reporting, Resource Adequacy proceedings, data requests from external and internal parties, and preparation of informational material for the MCE Board and public regarding power resource allocations. 

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide project management support including tracking milestones, following up with stakeholders, and providing ongoing updates and report outs on project status.

  • Supports with internal and external data requests. 

  • Oversees the management and administration of MCE’s various renewable energy certificate accounts within the WREGIS system.

  • Support with the preparation and submittal of compliance reports and materials related to MCE’s power supply, including those required by the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), California Energy Commission (CEC), California Independent System Operator (CAISO), the California Air Resources Board (CARB), The Climate Registry, and the Department of Energy (DOE). 

  • Provide contract management tracking support, update and maintain dashboards. 

  • Track and update MCE’s position reports.

  • Perform analyses of MCE’s bidding strategies, position management.

  • Update MCE’s contract management database with key information about MCE’s contracts.

  • Assist with invoice validation for MCE’s power contracts.

  • Assist with contract amendments, administration and execution.

Education/Experience

Education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree in business, economics, engineering or finance, supplemented by a minimum of 4 years of experience in a related internship or working for an electric utility, Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) program or in a closely related field. 

Knowledge of:

  • Basic project management and administration tools and processes.

  • The California Independent System Operator (CAISO) scheduling coordination and settlement processes.

  • Advanced to expert user of Microsoft Excel. Knowledge of databases is a plus.

  • The structure and content of standard power purchase agreements. California’s Renewables Portfolio Standard (RPS), resource adequacy obligations, Power Content Label obligations and Power Source Disclosure program.

  • Power scheduling and good utility practice.

  • Microsoft Office Suite including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

Compensation

This temporary role offers competitive compensation based on candidate experience along with generous benefits and perks, including an internet and cell phone stipends, paid sick leave, holiday pay and a mental wellness benefit.

Starting Salary Range for the Temporary Power Resources Analyst is $45 - $65 per hour.
