POSITION TITLE:        Contract Accountant

LOCATION:                 Remote/Little Rock/Arlington

DEPARTMENT:          Finance & Accounting, Contract Accounting

 

POSITION SUMMARY

Position Purpose: Supports contract and grant accounting/billing functions and associated project and accounting tasks.

Position Overview: Contracts Accountant is responsible for all aspects of direct project accounting, revenue, expense and indirect burdens, cost-share, billing, and invoicing. This position prepares financial reports for the assigned portfolio of grants, cooperative agreements, and contracts, performs accounting system set ups and maintenance, and provides support to internal stakeholders, funder audits and financial reviews.  This position reports to Director, Contract Accounting. While this position may be based remotely within the contiguous United States, the working hours are Eastern/Central standard time. 

Major Responsibilities

  • Set up awards and budgets in the accounting system.
  • Preparation and submission of external and internal financial reports for assigned portfolio of projects, including billings, invoices, funder reports, and other related schedules and forms.
  • Review of assigned projects monthly, including cost, revenue, burdens, general ledger reconciliations. Informing supervisor and program staff of any identified issues and assisting in their resolution.
  • Support of internal and external financial audits and reviews, including annual single audit.
  • Posting and organization of adjusting entries from monthly financial information upload from regional offices.
  • Administration and filing of electronic records related to all accounting tasks.
  • Responsible for preparation and maintenance of internal reports and reconciliation, as well as external reports of financial activity with US Government agencies and other funders, as needed.
  • Provide support and guidance to program, regional, and project finance staff.
  • Perform special projects and other responsibilities in line with the position expectations.

 

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field; master’s degree preferred

Experience: Minimum  2+ years of accounting experience working with federally funded projects. USAID and international development experience preferred.

Computer /Technical skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office and excellent Excel skills. Familiarity with computer-based accounting software required, Deltek CostPoint experience preferred.

Communication Skills:  Good speaking and writing skills. Strong e-mail communication skills, ability to write in a manner sensitive to cultural differences and provide clarity to staff where English is not the primary working language.

Language Skills: English, foreign language a plus.

Required Travel: Occasional travel may be required.

Position-Specific Skills: Good knowledge of US Government accounting, cost principles, award specific rules and regulations, sound accounting and analytical skills. Accuracy and attention to detail.

Physical Demands: normal office/remote environment

Candidates must be eligible to work in the US. 

This position has a salary range between $85,000 - $105,000 with most candidates falling at the mid-point of the range. Winrock provides an excellent benefits package including a 10% 403b annual contribution, excellent health care coverage and PTO/holiday leave plans.
