About Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority (CCJPA)

As a vital transit service in the Northern California megaregion, the Capitol Corridor Joint Powers Authority (CCJPA) plays an important role in sustainable travel. With an integrated network of train and bus services, the footprint of the Capitol Corridor extends as far south as Santa Barbara up to Humboldt, Reno, and South Lake Tahoe.

Position Overview & Description

The Capitol Corridor Marketing and Communications Fellow will have the opportunity to work on a variety of projects that support the development and assessment of integrated marketing, communications, and customer experiences strategies, to support ridership growth on the Capitol Corridor. The Marketing and Communications Fellow will work alongside Capitol Corridor marketing and communications team members, as well as cross-functional transportation service, planning, mechanical, and administrative management staff. This role offers the chance to explore strategies for enhancing rider experience, increasing ridership, and promoting sustainability. You'll learn about community engagement, using digital media to reach diverse audiences, and creating campaigns that highlight public transportation benefits. Additionally, you'll gain skills in oral and written communication, managing public perceptions, and analyzing ridership trends. Persuading behavior change is critical in this field, as you'll be encouraging people to choose public transit over other modes of transportation. This field is perfect for those interested in innovative marketing solutions and impactful communication strategies. This is a hybrid role with 2 days per week remote and 3 days per week in-person. Some evening and weekend hours may be needed, for event planning, content creation, or other activities, but they would be planned. 

Responsibilities

  • Update and maintain Capitol Corridor’s social media presence, including daily monitoring, posting, managing content calendar, and providing input on content
  • Develop content for social media channels, news articles, blogs, and newsletters featuring destination content, service updates, promotional offers, etc.
  • Provide graphic design support through the creation of digital and print marketing materials
  • Update and maintain digital media library, inventory of promotional items
  • Facilitate in-person and online customer engagement activities (events, online webinars, contests, etc.), and media event support
  • Provide partnership activation support through the execution of digital and print promotional materials and activities
  • Update the organization's website using WordPress with current events, relevant news, etc., in addition to reviewing the website for errors, broken links, etc.
  • Conduct market research and provide data analysis and reporting to assess campaigns, programs, and strategies 

Desired Qualifications

  • Strong writing skills
  • Some experience creating content for social media, websites
  • Interest in promotional partnership development
  • Interest and willingness to travel and explore where Capitol Corridor serves
  • Interest in customer engagement both direct and indirect (customer comments, in-person events, improving customer experience)
  • Excel skills and quantitative skills to create or review marketing analytics reports
