Who are we?

Who are we?ICEYE is a global provider of earth observation data, operating the largest constellation of remote sensing small SAR (Synthetic Aperture Radar) satellites. Our cutting-edge technology delivers unparalleled insights and imagery from space, empowering decision-makers across various industries. We are now expanding our aerial observation solutions with the development of a High Altitude Pseudo-Satellite (HAPS) aircraft. This is a fast-paced project that requires an experienced engineer with good first principles knowledge is able to apply them to develop aircraft engineering solutions.

Our team is a tight-knit group of experts across many disciplines (e.g.,  aerospace engineering, composite structures, mechanical design, software development, avionics, radar technology, etc.). We’re an innovative, driven team who strive for excellence in everything we do. Teamwork, curiosity, and having fun are our core values at ICEYE, and contribute to making the impossible possible!

What is the role?

As a key player in our team, you will implement and optimize the design and manufacturing processes needed for developing mechanical assemblies and structures for our HAPS aircraft. You'll collaborate closely with our engineering and manufacturing teams, as well as our suppliers.

You will be responsible for designing prototypes, and flight worthy aircraft components. You will take responsibility and work directly with a senior engineer for developing clean sheet engineering designs from the conceptual, manufacturing, to the testing stages. It’s necessary to be able to work on your own and make key design decisions based on past experiences and engineering principles learnt at the university. Your evaluation and input will be vital in the design processes to quickly develop components in a fast moving and dynamic work environment. Hands-on experience with fabricating prototypes is highly desirable.

Requirements

  • BS/MS in Aerospace, Aeronautical, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Demonstrated experience (5+ years) of owning a part design through the full design cycles, manufacturing, and testing processes.
  • Experience in developing clean sheet designs and developing them to a conceptual working prototype.
  • Demonstrated practical and creative problem-solving abilities for simple and complex engineering design problems.
  • Experience with design for manufacturing methodologies.
  • General aircraft engineering knowledge and best practices to align them to manufacturing and COTS solutions.
  • Demonstrated experience in designing mechanical assemblies, tooling and fixtures, and general knowledge of composite structures manufacturing and assembly.
  • Proficiency in parameterized CAD design software (Inventor, CATIA, NX, Solidworks).
  • Proficiency with FEA tools (ANSYS, Nastran, etc.).
  • Proficiency with structural hand calculations.
  • Creating and interpreting manufacturing drawings (GD&T).
  • Basic manufacturing knowledge of machined components.
  • Design of mechanisms (aircraft, ground support equipment, robotics).
  • Good knowledge of designing test equipment for structural and instrumentation testing.
  • Works well in a team environment and is willing to learn new skill sets.
  • Detail oriented, able to track and justify engineering decisions.
  • Proactive, can-do attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Support design and manufacturing activities of aircraft composite structures.
  • Design CAD assemblies of aircraft components and test equipment.
  • Coordinate the design and manufacturing of components with various engineering and manufacturing departments, and suppliers.
  • Be able to manage multiple on-going projects simultaneously.
  • Support flight testing activities.
  • Design ground support equipment.
  • Be able to select COTS based on flow down requirements or hand calculations.

Preferred

  • Experience with Autodesk Inventor.
  • Spanish fluency is a plus, but not required.
  • High level of written and conversational English.
  • Experience with experimental aircraft design and manufacturing.
  • Enjoys working on personal engineering projects and can provide examples.
  • Can share a design portfolio of past projects.
  • Hands-on experience with manned aircraft, drones, or RC models.

Base salary range

  • 5k-6k EUR per month (gross) contingent on your experience level, and will be negotiated individually

Benefits

  • Hybrid working model (remote/on-site)
  • A job that matters in a dynamic Earth Observation environment with a scale-up approach
  • Competitive Salary
  • An independent role with a supportive and diverse work environment
  • Time for self-development, research, training, conferences, or certification schemes
  • Health insurance
