Description
We are looking for a detail-oriented and proactiveApplications/Permitting Specialist Internto join our team for the summer. This internship offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the permitting and compliance processes essential to the success of residential and commercial solar energy projects. The ideal candidate will support the permitting team in preparing, submitting, and tracking permit applications while learning about zoning regulations, building codes, and solar project workflows.
This role is perfect for students pursuing a degree in environmental studies, urban planning, public administration, construction management, or a related field who are interested in the intersection of renewable energy and regulatory processes.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist in preparing and submitting permit applications for residential and commercial solar installations across various jurisdictions.
Review project plans and documentation for accuracy and compliance with local building and electrical codes.
Communicate with city and county permitting departments to follow up on application status, address corrections, and ensure timely approvals.
Maintain accurate records of submissions, approvals, and ongoing communication in project management systems.
Coordinate with internal departments including engineering, sales, and operations to ensure permit packages are complete and submitted on schedule.
Support the permitting team in researching local requirements, zoning ordinances, and utility interconnection processes.
Assist in updating permitting guides and internal documentation to reflect current jurisdictional requirements.
Attend team meetings, training sessions, and assist with process improvement initiatives.
Qualifications:
Currently pursuing a degree in Environmental Studies, Urban Planning, Public Policy, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Interest in renewable energy, sustainability, or regulatory compliance.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook); experience with project management tools (e.g., Salesforce, Smartsheet) is a plus.
Prior office or administrative experience is helpful but not required.
