Responsibilities

Job Purpose

The purpose of the Compliance Director role is to support the Chief Compliance Officer in developing and maintaining a framework of compliance over Pattern’s fast-growing business.

 

Key Accountabilities

  • Develop, implement and manage a company-wide compliance framework. Additionally, maintain a current compliance universe.
  • Develops and maintains standardized compliance policies, procedures, and internal controls to assure regulatory compliance of the Company's operations, including data privacy and data security
  • Establish and promote a strong culture of compliance within the organization
  • Work with Compliance Leads to provide monitoring oversight of operational processes within the Company that support and facilitating desired overall objectives
  • Leads the development of a comprehensive Compliance Management System, including predictive metrics and models that increase efficiencies and improve reporting, and that allow for accurate and timely identification of regulatory risk
  • Creates a comprehensive compliance awareness and training program
  • Identifies potential compliance gaps and develop appropriate remediation and mitigation plans
  • Acts as liaison between the company and its regulators regarding audits, examinations, and compliance reviews.
  • Ensures the competency and accountability of staff and set expectations for training and development of personnel in order to provide for continued career advancement and development
  • Ensure all regulatory requirements for new and operating assets are known, tracked, prepared for and met on time. Assists with the submission of accurate and timely reports as required by senior management and regulatory agencies
  • Assist with the research of compliance issues and trends, formulate recommendations and solutions to support conclusions, and provide practical advice for corrective action, innovation, and continuous process improvements. Assist with presenting findings and recommendations to stakeholders and leadership teams. Secure management action plans for remediation and monitor remediation progress and timeliness.
  • Develop productive business partner relationships and proactively interact with key management personnel at all levels to gather information, resolve problems, and make recommendations for business process improvements
  • Invest in understanding Pattern’s business and the renewable energy industry to better identify areas of need and opportunities to advise
  • Lead ad-hoc programs and initiatives to provide advisory insights
  • Responsible for ensuring compliance audits are regulator performed with Internal Audit where necessary

Qualifications

Experience/Qualifications/Education Required

Education 

  • Bachelor’s Degree, JD, MBA or equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field;

Certifications

  • CPA, CIA, CCEP, CFE, etc.

Experience

  • The ideal candidate must have proven experience that emphasizes knowledge of standard compliance areas within the Renewable Industry including FCPA, Data Privacy, and other compliance regulations
  • Strong knowledge and experience with working with regulatory agencies including the FERC, NERC, and CFTC).
  • 10-15 years of Compliance experience
  • Preferably comes from multinational corporate environment and/or Big 4
  • Experience in implementing a framework of compliance at a global company with international locations is preferred
  • Experience with leading investigations of non-compliance or whistleblower claims of non-compliance
  • Research and interpretation of current and pending governmental laws, regulations, industry standards, and contracts to communicate compliance requirements
  • Strong understanding of internal controls, operational processes, and risk management principles
  • Evaluation of compliance programs and processes to assess and mitigate risks
  • Collaboration with business leaders to review compliance risk findings and implement solution
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to effectively prioritize and manage multiple compliance concurrently
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, to effectively present to peers and management, including report positioning and clarity.
  • Ability to discuss complex issues with any level of management and influence perspectives
  • Renewable energy industry experience is preferred
  • Energy Trading exposure is preferred

Skills & Ability:

  • Strategic thinker with advanced analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to understand business processes to identify control deficiencies, process issues, and business problems and recommend potential solutions
  • Maintain a current knowledge base of compliance industry practices to ensure best practices are always considered
  • Proficiency in using audit software, data analysis tools, and MS Office applications
  • Excellent organizational skills and understanding of methods for streamlining and automating repetitive functions
  • Initiative in pursuing appropriate, timely and effective solutions to complex issues
  • Ability to respond to time sensitive issues with quick turnaround

 

The expected starting pay range for this role is $137,000 - $185,000 USD. This range is an estimate and base pay may be above or below the ranges based on several factors including but not limited to location, work experience, certifications, and education. In addition to base pay, Pattern’s compensation program includes a bonus structure for full-time employees of all levels. We also provide a comprehensive benefits package which includes medical, dental, vision, short and long-term disability, life insurance, voluntary benefits, family care benefits, employee assistance program, paid time off and bonding leave, paid holidays, 401(k)/RRSP retirement savings plan with employer contribution, and employee referral bonuses.
