POSITION SUMMARY:

Alexander Dennis is looking for a dynamic Health, Safety, and Environmental Manager to join its Scarborough team. In this role, you'll lead the charge in shaping a proactive health and safety culture, ensuring legal compliance, and updating key policies. You’ll collaborate across teams to drive improvements, oversee audits, and manage emergency responses. If you have experience in complex engineering or manufacturing, relevant qualifications (NEBOSH, IOSH), and a passion for influencing positive change, this is your chance to make a real impact in a global company committed to innovation and sustainability.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • You will be responsible for the implementation of a strategy that allows Alexander Dennis to meet legal obligations, whilst driving forward a positive and proactive culture that ultimately improves all aspects health, safety and environment.
  • Using your core technical experience, you will review and update existing policies and standard operating procedures in line with best practice, as well as developing new ones to meet business and statutory requirements. Included in this is the audit of such activities.
  • Supporting colleagues at all levels with all health, safety and environmental matters, coaching and developing them to take more responsibility for this in the future.
  • Develop value-added management information and reporting; leading the way on which KPI’s we should be using to drive behaviour and performance.
  • Provide expert advice on and capital/operational expenditure plans, to ensure that the long-term health, safety and environmental needs of the business are addressed.
  • Develop and propose improvements to policies, programs, and procedures to improve the effectiveness of EHS operations.
  • Lead the H&S function, across operations and other areas as directed, ensuring standards are met with consistent execution and implementation to ensure regulatory legal compliance.
  • Set clear key performance indicators to measure success within this area
  • Oversee execution of emergency/ hazard response activities and all Health and Safety investigations to ensure appropriate internal and external reporting, root cause and corrective action are implemented and followed-up to completion.
  • Oversee execution of employer’s liability (and similar) compensation claims management programmes.
  • Provide guidance and advice on current and future initiatives ensuring compliance with applicable Health and Safety acts and regulations, ensuring:
  • Identification and development of Health and Safety training and required certification.
  • Appropriate monitoring and assessment of occupational exposures from the various processes.
  • Waste management system. monitoring and reporting requirements of air emissions, industrial and hazardous waste disposal, storage tanks, storm water permitting, sewer permitting, chemical purchase/storage, and water discharge programs are maintained to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations.
  • Accurate statistical data, reports, and analysis of Health and Safety conditions are produced in support of reduction goals.
  • Support Group Safety Lead with integration and coordination of global HR safety and environmental strategy.

WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL:

  • To be successful, you will have previous experience in a similar role
  • Ideally your work experience will be gained in the Automotive industry, however we would also welcome those from other similarly complex engineering/manufacturing environments.
  • You will be familiar with the set up and on-going maintenance of Health, Safety and Environmental management systems.
  • Due to the technical nature of the role, you will hold appropriate professional qualifications and certifications such as NEBOSH, IOSH, IMEA and various ISO accreditations.
  • You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to, influence, direct and in-direct teams, as well as taking a hands-on approach to all areas of accountability.
  • You will have strong analysis and problem-solving skills, being adept and communicating with and coaching others to take responsibility for health, safety and environmental activities in their areas.
