PERSON PROFILE

ERM is looking for a candidate to lead our Australia and New Zealand Safety Practice. The individual will have safety consultancy skills within technical risk, process safety management or operational safety and will have a track record in one or more of the oil & gas, mining, infrastructure (construction), manufacturing, power/renewables, chemical/pharma and/or technology sectors.  Expertise will need to be demonstrated in one or more of our safety services including technical risk (safety case, HAZOP, QRA or PSM), assessing EHS performance, reviewing safety management system and implementation of compliance programmes.  Skills in developing and delivering safety leadership & culture programmes, safety training programs, and facilitating alignment around corporate EHS strategies in the context of the Australian health & safety regulatory framework are also beneficial but not essential. We are looking for an individual who can demonstrate excellent business development and client relationship skills, and who has a proven track record in developing and implementing successful business growth strategies.  The candidate will be passionate about sustainability and safety and have experience in developing world class safety management programs.

ROLE

In this client-facing role, we require a leader to play a key role in growing our safety services. The selected candidate will be accountable for the following:

  • Develop and implement strategic business/action plans, provide leadership, and deliver performance results to expand ERM's Safety Services team and client base in Australia. 
  • Serve as a key member of the ERM team to drive double-digit profitable growth across the safety service areas (technical risk, process safety management, safety transformation/leadership programs, H&S audit and management system programmes, safety services, EHS training programmes and EHS/sustainability strategies).
  • Identify and develop new opportunities, prepare effective technical proposals, and take active leadership role in developing new business with new and existing clients.
  • Grow a safety services delivery team through both hiring and consultant development.
  • Develop and expand client relationships that generate repeat business.
  • Be client facing, with a proven track record of developing Key Client relationships to meet business development needs.
  • Identify and develop new opportunities and manage strategic EHS programmes for a variety of industrial clients with complex technical/regulatory issues.
  • Design and direct large programmes/projects and multi-person project teams.  Achieve client’s expectations for scope, budget, schedule, and quality.
  • Display experience in one or more of our core sectors – oil & gas; mining; infrastructure (including construction); chemical/pharma; manufacturing; power/renewables; and technology.
  • Lead, manage safety team performance, hire and retain, develop, inspire and mentor personnel for overall success of the safety services team.
  • Be passionate about EHS performance improvement and have experience with developing cutting edge (or ‘world class’) safety management programmes.
  • Develop a working understanding of ERM’s other consulting practice areas and actively work with client account leads support cross-selling these services to existing clients.
  • Coordinate with ERM offices and safety service specialists in APAC and where appropriate globally.  
  • Flexibility is provided on the base location however willingness to travel within Australia will be needed to facilitate development of client relationships and the growth of an Australia wide safety services delivery team. 

REQUIREMENTS

  • University degree in safety, engineering, psychology, behavioural science or University educated with considerable practical safety experience through consulting/industry roles.
  • Approximately 15 years’ or more of relevant experience in working for a safety consultancy or leading corporation as a safety lead, preferably focused in one or more of our core sectors (oil & gas; mining; infrastructure; power/renewables; manufacturing; chemical/pharma and/or technology).
  • Detailed knowledge of the application of Australian health & safety regulations to construction, mining, industrial and commercial operations.
  • Strong expertise around safety management programs for large organizations.
  • Proven track record in developing and implementing successful business growth.
  • Strong business development skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain long-term relationships with clients.
  • Be passionate about EHS performance improvement.
  • Solid people leadership experience.
