Terrestrial Biodiversity Consultant with Geospatial Background (CL3)

ERM Malaysia is seeking a talented and experienced Terrestrial Biodiversity consultant with GIS background to help support our growing workload, as well as our considerable growth ambitions. The role will be based in our Malaysia or Brunei office and will form part of the ERM Asia Pacific Business Unit Biodiversity (Capital Project Delivery) Team.

This position would be well suited to a terrestrial ecologist and Geospatial specialist experienced in consent-based consultancy and with experience in, or passion for, working in the Oil &Gas, Low Carbon Energy Transition (LCET) and infrastructure sectors. The ideal candidate will bring experience in biodiversity as applied to impact assessment and sustainable finance (preparation of Environmental Impact Assessments, Critical habitat assessments, Biodiversity Management Plans and Biodiversity Action Plans). Ideally, the candidate is also preferred to have experience with GIS, data management and statistical analysis. Experience as applied to corporate biodiversity nature positive strategies is also welcome.

If you have the following, we want to hear from you:

Requirements:

  • 5 - 8 years demonstrated experience working in the field of terrestrial biodiversity management and/or conservation (experience with Landscape ecology, impact assessment, Critical Habitat Assessments, Biodiversity Action Plans)
  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in either Natural Science, Biodiversity, Geography, natural science or related fields (minor or major in ecology or geology is a plus).
  • Minimum of one year applied experience using Esri’s suite of software or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge in Microsoft Office suite and familiar with the spreadsheet, tables, and text data integration in ArcGIS.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills with awareness of professional presentation and keen eye for details. 
  • Resourceful with common sense approach in conduction business and workload management.
  • Excellent writing skills in both English and Malay.
  • Fluent in English is mandatory.
  • Consulting experience is preferred.

What you will do:

  • Work with internal ERM teams on variety of projects to support the geospatial needs; cartography, spatial analysis, ETL routines and other project deliverables.
  • Manage project data from various sources and agencies, government, laboratories, municipalities field staff etc.
  • Additionally, assist technical staff and managers to promote new and on-going visualization needs.
  • Co-ordinating, designing, scheduling, and undertaking biodiversity surveys within Southeast Asia.
  • Writing technical reports, as well as assessments (EIA).
  • Support visualization and analysis of spatial data using Esri’s ArcGIS suite of software (ArcMap, ArcGIS Online or ArcGIS Pro) – this includes the web GIS familiarity.
  • Engaging with and providing expert advice to project managers, stakeholders, and clients of ERM Global.
  • Provide advice and support to junior team members including mentoring.
  • Support Project Managers in the delivery of projects to schedule and budget.

Additional advantage - Skills & Experience:

  • Experience coordinating and undertaking a range of biodiversity and ecology surveys.
  • Experience with TNFD standards, NPI assessment and Biodiversity Net Gain would be welcomed.
  • Experience in marine offshore surveys would be an advantage.
  • Knowledge of protected species, indicative species and mitigation as well as relevant guidance and legislation of Malaysia and Southeast Asia.
