Description

EnviroScience is seeking an Aquatic Biologist to support our Natural Resources team at our Richmond, VA office. The Aquatic Biologist will be responsible for conducting and/or leading field efforts for different types of aquatic surveys in multiple states and regions of the eastern United States, including but not limited to fish, macroinvertebrates, water quality, and habitat using a variety of equipment types and methodologies. The Aquatic Biologist will be accountable for completion of specific field survey protocols, equipment operation, data recording, reporting, and equipment maintenance. Team members in this position should be able to communicate effectively with other team members and project managers while performing work in accordance with a project budget and schedule. This position consists of a combination of office and field work with regular extended overnight travel (up to 2 weeks or more per trip) during the field season.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate should have a strong desire to perform field work and lead/or assist field crews to complete aquatic surveys for various applications and project types. The ideal candidate for this position should be environmentally focused with the following qualifications:

Required

  • Minimum BS degree in Biology, Environmental Science, Wildlife Management, or related field
  • A minimum of 3 years professional experience
  • Ability to work independently or as a team and multi-task regularly in a fast-paced, changing work environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity with sampling techniques for fish, benthic macroinvertebrates, and surface water
  • Experience with on-water work / boat operations
  • Must be willing to complete extended overnight travel and/or work flexible a schedule including long or variable hours
  • Prospective candidates should be in good physical condition and be able to hike extended distances over rough, uneven terrain and lift and carry up to 50 pounds
  • Ability to perform strenuous fieldwork in harsh conditions and/or rugged, remote terrain
  • Applicants must possess a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record; background check required
