ChargeScape – VP of Finance

About ChargeScape

The U.S. is on track for 50% of all new vehicle sales in 2030 to be electric – but our power grid was not built to withstand this level of electricity demand, and charging remains a pain point for drivers. With over 80% of EV charging occurring at home, ChargeScape was formed by some of the world’s largest automakers (BMW, Ford, and Honda – with more joining soon) with the mission to enable everyone to access sustainable, affordable energy from a reliable power grid.

ChargeScape’s software platform serves as the connective tissue between EV drivers and power utilities, using cloud-based commands to schedule EV charging for the most grid-friendly, low-carbon hours all while putting money back in drivers’ wallets. We recently launched with a founding team of executives with over a decade of experience in EV charging software, and are looking to make one of our first hires for a critical leadership position.

The role

The VP of Finance is a key leadership position that will own and actively manage ChargeScape’s accounting and strategic finance functions. Initially, the VP of Finance will act as a “team of one” and work closely with the CEO and CTO to establish foundational systems and processes that will set ChargeScape up for rapid scaling, with a focus on financial planning, forecasting, budgeting and control. Eventually, we expect this position to evolve into a CFO role with a dedicated team.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Lead financial planning & forecasting for ChargeScape, working with the CEO and business leads to set and deliver on investor expectations;
  • Own the ChargeScape financial model and Company Annual Plan, updating these as needed to reflect dynamic operating conditions;
  • Work with ChargeScape leadership to make key financial decisions involving hiring, investments, and commercial negotiations;
  • Lead revenue reporting on key metrics such as ARR, TCV and ARPU;
  • Own the tools, systems and processes encompassing expense approval and processing, accounts payable/receivable, and payroll;
  • Operationalize monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting for accounting, tax, audit, and investor reporting purposes;
  • Collaborate with our external accountants to comply with tax reporting, audits and other regulatory requirements; and
  • Work closely with the CEO to respond to ad-hoc investor requests.

Initially, with a small founding team, we anticipate that this role may also take on ad-hoc operations tasks, for example working with the CEO and Chief of Staff to set and measure company KPIs, and working with our external HR provider to manage payroll, expenses and employee benefits.

The candidate

The ideal candidate:

  • Has strong financial modelling acumen and experience, and can structure, build and maintain complex financial models to support business needs;
  • Has operational experience working at a start-up or other business, with exposure to at least one other function beyond finance; and
  • Is willing to work hard, ruthlessly prioritize, and provide interim leadership and support across multiple areas as we build out our team; and
  • Is comfortable presenting to and influencing C-suite and investor stakeholders.

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in investment banking, private equity, or management consulting;
  • Previous operational or start-up experience, either full-time or as part of an internship/externship;
  • MBA degree not required but preferred.

The opportunity

We will be able to offer you:

  • A competitive salary and bonus, with total cash compensation of $225,000 - $300,000 per year;
  • A comprehensive benefits package including healthcare, 401(k) and unlimited PTO;
  • A flexible/hybrid work environment with regular company-wide offsites;
  • The opportunity to shape ChargeScape’s business from the ground up; and
  • A clear path into the C-suite provided demonstrated and consistent strong performance.
