Job Description – Chief Architect

About ChargeScape

The U.S. is on track for 50% of all new vehicle sales in 2030 to be electric – but our power grid was not built to withstand this level of electricity demand, and charging remains a pain point for drivers. With over 80% of EV charging occurring at home, ChargeScape was formed by some of the world’s largest automakers (BMW, Ford, and Honda – with more joining soon) with the mission to enable everyone to access sustainable, affordable energy from a reliable power grid.

ChargeScape’s software platform serves as the connective tissue between EV drivers and power utilities, using cloud-based commands to schedule EV charging for the most grid-friendly, low-carbon hours all while putting money back in drivers’ wallets. We recently launched with a founding team of executives with over a decade of experience in EV charging software, and are looking to make one of our first hires for a critical leadership position.

The role

As a Senior Architect specializing in cloud technologies, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our product architecture and technology roadmap. Reporting directly to the CTO, you will collaborate closely with product managers, internal and external technology teams, and leadership to ensure our technical solutions meet both project requirements and business objectives.

Core responsibilities include:

  • Provide technical leadership and architectural guidance to cross-functional product teams throughout the software development lifecycle.
  • Design scalable, secure, and reliable cloud-native applications leveraging AWS services and other open-source solutions.
  • Implement best practices for SaaS security, with a strong focus on protecting PII data and ensuring compliance with industry standards (e.g., GDPR, CCPA).
  • Drive architectural decisions that align with the company’s strategic goals, scalability requirements, and operational needs.
  • Champion DevOps principles to enable continuous integration, delivery, and deployment (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand product requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
  • Evaluate new technologies and stay current with industry trends to ensure our technology stack remains cutting-edge and competitive.

The candidate

The ideal candidate has:

  • 7+ years of progressive experience in software development and architecture.
  • Extensive experience architecting and designing cloud-based solutions, particularly on AWS.
  • Proven track record of building and scaling cloud-native applications in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong understanding of security best practices for SaaS solutions and experience securing PII data.
  • Hands-on experience with AWS services such as EC2, Lambda, RDS, IAM, Dynamo etc.
  • Familiarity with open-source technologies and their integration with cloud services.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience working in Agile development methodologies.
  • AWS certifications (e.g., AWS Certified Solutions Architect, AWS Certified DevOps Engineer).
  • Experience with microservices architecture and container orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes).
  • Knowledge of serverless computing and event-driven architectures.
  • Prior experience in a startup environment or other fast-growing company.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or a related field.

The opportunity

We will be able to offer you:

  • A competitive salary and bonus, with total cash compensation of $225,000 – $300,000 per year;
  • A comprehensive benefits package including healthcare, 401(k) and unlimited PTO;
  • A flexible/hybrid work environment with regular company-wide offsites; and
