The Role:
We’re hiring for a key role that will support the development of ARR carbon partnerships and projects with Pachama, ensuring carbon finance and project development expertise goes to projects providing real climate benefits. This new role will be in charge of managing NBS carbon projects in Pachama’s portfolio, developing and refining project plans, coordinate due diligence of projects under development and manage projects’ budgets, identify potential risks, oversee implementation activities, and coordinate with local communities to facilitate on-the-ground activities, among other things.

Additionally, this new role will support in the creation and growth of commercial relationships with partners who have new or existing forest carbon projects. The Project Development Partner will assist in closing critical commercial deals and build relationships with strategic project proponents. Our ideal candidate will be bilingual (Spanish and English or Portuguese and English) and have existing experience in carbon markets, forest carbon projects, and corporate climate commitments as well as strong business development experience and the drive to create durable partnerships that benefit people, nature, and climate.

The new role will be a key member of Pachama’s supply team and work globally with project proponents including communities, project developers, and large NGOs. The position will report to the Senior Carbon Developer of Brazil.

Location: This role is remote based in Brazil.

What You Will Help Us With:

  • Develop and refine project plans, including timelines, budgets and resource allocation.
  • Coordinate due diligence of projects that have been qualified and have entered the evaluate stage.
  • Develop and manage projects’ budgets, ensuring cost-effectiveness and financial sustainability.
  • Prepare technical and activities reports;
  • Identify potential risks to the projects and develop mitigation strategies, as well as monitor risks continuously.
  • Oversee and/or monitor implementation of reforestation activities, ensuring or reviewing adherence to project plans and timelines.
  • Supervise coordination with local communities and stakeholder to facilitate on-the-ground activities.
  • Develop and implement monitoring and evaluation frameworks to track project progress and outcomes.
  • Coordinate that project complies with environmental and social safeguards, including biodiversity conservation and community benefits.
  • Communicate project achievements and challenges to stakeholders through regular updates and reports.
  • Identify opportunities for innovation and improvement in project processes and methodologies.
  • Support on-site project audit processes
  • Stay informed about the latest developments in carbon reforestation and incorporate new knowledge into project activities.
  • Manage and strengthen relationships with all stakeholders of the projects, especially project implementers, carbon developers, landowners and local and/or indigenous communities.
  • Support partners in alignment of project’s carbon design according to Verra’s methodologies.

Experience & Skills We're Looking For:

  • Fluent in Spanish or Portuguese (bonus if fluent in both)
  • At least 5 years of experience with Restoration and/or Reforestation projects
  • At least 5 years of experience with forest carbon project management
  • Knowledge and experience in carbon asset development with ARR Verra methodologies
  • Quota-carrying experience or a strong record of metrics based performance
  • Willingness to be scrappy and grow alongside a start-up
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
