About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Platform Engineer to join our growing engineering team. Reporting to the Head of Engineering, you are expected to collaborate closely with people across the business, particularly Engineering Leads and the Founding Engineer.

This role requires a product-led, forward-thinking approach, as you will be instrumental in driving the continuous innovation and improvement of our platform and cloud infrastructure. You will also work directly in supporting Orkestra’s entry and rapid growth in international markets.

In your first 12 months you may…

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to design and build simple, secure, and stable systems that can support continual change
  • Manage cloud services such as databases, storage, messaging, and networking components
  • Implement monitoring, alerts and observability dashboards for distributed systems
  • Figure out how to best provision and support multi-region deployments of our existing infrastructure (data storage, authentication, APIs, CDNs, 3rd party integrations, data pipelines etc)
  • Manage and participate in on-call rotation, incident response and post mortem investigations
  • Support leadership in guiding the organisation to successful GDPR compliance (the technical and process-based aspects)
  • Build the foundations of a data processing platform including data integrations, ingest pipelines, and ETL pipelines
  • Improve and maintain internal developer tooling or CICD pipelines

Technology we use and teach

  • TypeScript, Vue2, Vue3, React
  • Python, FastAPI, Pydantic
  • Postgres, SQLAlchemy
  • AWS, CDK
  • GitHub Actions, Cloudflare
  • Auth0, Stripe, Segment, Hubspot
  • Jira, Notion

About You

  • You’re a technical leader with demonstrated expertise in Platform Engineering and/or SRE.
  • An excellent collaborator, you work closely with the Founding Engineer, Engineering Leads, product engineers and product managers to understand their context and co-design appropriate solutions which balance feature velocity and platform health.
  • You’re keen to gain deep technical expertise on the services we operate (e.g., knowing what tech debt needs to be addressed, managing maintenance load, evolving architecture).
  • You are passionate about engineering excellence, systems architecture, and meeting non-functional requirements, but also deeply pragmatic - you know when to fix a problem vs when to let a particular fire burn (and can explain “why” to other people).
  • Self-motivated and can work independently, you take the initiative to ensure that you have everything you need to work efficiently and call for support when required.
  • You are capable of participating in prioritising and planning work to aid the goals of the business.
  • You’re happiest leading by example, working in close partnership with leadership to foster an inclusive, collaborative and positive engineering culture

Ideally you have…

  • Minimum 8 years of experience, with at least 2+ years in a similar role
  • Experience with one or more coding languages, including Python
  • Experience using IaC to provision a variety of AWS services (VPCs, subnets, security groups, IAM, lambdas, load balancers, data storage, secrets management)
  • Experience with serverless architectures
  • Prior experience rolling out instrumentation, monitoring, log aggregation and observability dashboards (SaaS or self-hosted) to an organisation, to ensure system reliability, performance and security
  • Clear, concise written and spoken communication. As a remote-first team this is particularly important!
  • Experience or desire to work in a seed stage startup
