Planetary Technologies’ vision is to restore the climate and heal the ocean for generations to come. We do this by enhancing the ocean’s natural ability to fight climate change through carbon dioxide removal and storage. Our team combines expertise in ocean science, metallurgy and geochemistry to safely and effectively scale up ocean-based CO2 management solutions. Working collaboratively with all of our stakeholders, we develop a cost-effective and sustainable set of tools aimed at protecting and restoring our oceans and climate, ultimately doing carbon dioxide removal and storage at gigatonne scale.

We are now seeking a project manager to represent Planetary in the Chesapeake Bay area as part of a NOAA-funded project. This means building and growing momentum around our work in Virginia, which encompasses modeling ocean alkalinity enhancement (OAE), monitoring and testing ocean chemistry, integration with wastewater facilities, and development of monitoring, reporting, and verification systems for OAE. 


Core Responsibilities

 

  • Managing the various Planetary project activities in the Chesapeake Bay, including operational monitoring, performance reporting of pilot projects
  • Strong stakeholder management, communicating effectively with diverse groups including scientists, government officials, and local communities
  • Identify, assess, and manage project risks, developing mitigation strategies as needed
  • Compiling progress reports for internal and external stakeholders
  • Managing contractors and partners in Virginia, including work visualization/ project management tool updates, organizing team meetings, recruitment, and decision-making 
  • Sourcing materials and equipment for the successful execution of projects and managing project budgets and financial reporting
  • Coordinating ocean research work with other Planetary partners around the world 
  • Further supporting the strategic development of North American projects
  • Work with regulatory agencies to ensure site compliance with all environmental health and safety requirements for the project, which include meeting with regulatory authorities and preparing any necessary documentation.


About You


  • Hold a Bachelor or Masters degree in science or engineering, ideally in an ocean or wastewater treatment-related discipline
  • Have 3+ years of experience managing a project and can define how you assisted in achieving project outcomes, ideally in a low-structure environment
  • Have obtained a PMP designation
  • Have familiarity with environmental regulations, particularly those related to marine ecosystems and carbon dioxide removal projects is beneficial
  • Can demonstrate experience with data analysis and interpretation
  • Have strong technical writing skills for preparing reports, proposals and documentation with the ability to distill complex technical information
  • Have an optimistic, action-oriented approach 
  • Are curious about climate change technologies and passionate about protecting our world for future generations
  • Are located in and able to work in the Chesapeake Bay Region
  • Have a valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle


Preference will be given to candidates who have an understanding of chemistry, including the ocean carbonate system, or who can demonstrate familiarity with the local ecosystem and environmental challenges
