About the Job
The Applications Engineer will play a crucial role in the design, commercialization and optimization of utility-scale battery storage systems. This position is a broad role, encompassing traditional applications engineering activities and higher-level product management activities related to Peak’s longer-term product roadmap and strategies. This role requires a strong grasp of the underlying physics of energy storage technologies and power systems along with excellent communication skills. The successful candidate will work closely with our design, commercial and operations teams and directly with our customers to architect, sell and deploy our sodium-ion battery storage solutions.
Responsibilities:
Customer Engagement:
- Serve as a technical liaison between the company and customers, addressing technical inquiries and providing solutions.
- Provide customers with updates on Peak’s product development process in the form of written documentation and in person meetings and presentations
- Conduct customer training sessions and workshops on the operation and maintenance of battery storage systems.
- Gather customer feedback and collaborate with the R&D team to drive product improvements and innovation.
Product Management
- Own and maintain the product definition for Peak’s first utility scale energy storage product, managing upstream coordination with customer needs and downstream consumption and feedback on requirements from systems and design engineers.
- Build out Peak’s technical strategies around product warranty, performance guarantee, long term service agreements, spare parts availability and other customer facing technical operations
- Capture new customer and application driven certification requirements for Peak’s products
Project Design and Engineering:
- Oversee project engineering efforts for Peak’s pilot and commercial battery deployments.
- Develop detailed engineering specifications and documentation to drive the scoping and execution of pilot projects
- Work with utilities, grid operators, and regulatory bodies to meet compliance and interconnection requirements.
Technical Support:
- Review and monitor the internal validation of Peak’s products to ensure that they comply with application requirements set forth by the product team
- Provide technical support to the business development and project management teams to support the sales and product development processes.
- Assist in the preparation of technical proposals, feasibility studies, and cost estimates.
- Conduct site assessments and support the installation and commissioning of battery storage systems.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- Prior experience in energy storage, power systems, or related industries.
- Familiarity with battery storage technologies, power electronics, and grid integration.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey complex technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders through written documents and live presentations.
- Desire to work at a rapidly scaling early-stage company where building the infrastructure needed to complete work is part of the job
- Willingness to travel to project sites and customer locations as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with utility-scale battery storage projects.
- Knowledge of regulatory standards and interconnection requirements.
- Familiarity with the deployment and operation of renewable energy systems, including solar and wind.
- Hands on experience with hardware product development and high voltage systems
- Project management experience and familiarity with project management tools.

The salary range for this role is $122,000 - $205,000, with actual pay varying based on work location, experience, and skills. At Peak Energy, we value our employees and promote work-life balance.
