Your Opportunity

One Permanent Full Time Position.  

Capital Power is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Business Specialist who has extensive experience in the commodity trading space to join our dynamic team. This unique opportunity allows you to contribute your expertise to our Energy Trading Risk Management (ETRM) business area while providing support to systems and reporting tools in the commodities trading application suite. As a Business Specialist, you will play a crucial role in maintaining and enhancing our applications to ensure flawless operations and drive continuous improvement.

You will contribute to our team by:

  • Supporting functional and technical aspects of highly complex and diverse set of applications and business process and providing superior customer focused application support services that are in line with our service level agreements.

  • Executing on the creation and maintenance of business process and functional design for IT systems used by supporting business groups.

  • Reviewing technical designs to ensure compliance with business requirements.

  • Delivering technical configuration services for both operational and project initiatives.

  • Addressing business users' long-term needs by providing comprehensive solutions.

  • Participating in the resolution of business process and technical problems; applying appropriate trouble-shooting skills and ensuring best-practice steps are followed in gathering/eliciting stakeholder requirements, solution developing, testing and implementing.

  • Coordinating and delivering of user acceptance testing of an end-to-end solution to a package of business requirements.

  • Offering expertise and guidance on all business processes carried out within the ETRM applications eco-system.

  • Collaborating with other people leaders within information systems or business groups to enhance collaboration and optimize the offerings provided by the Business support team.

  • Collaborating with industry professionals to stay updated on industry standards and effective strategies to enhance productivity within the ETRM applications team.

What you will bring to the role:

Education:

  • Completed diploma or degree in Accounting, Economics, Mathematics, Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or Management Information Systems.

  • Post-secondary degree, diploma or equivalent in Business Analysis with related experience may be considered.

Experience:

  • 3+ years’ of experience in a commodity trading environment or, 3+ years’ experience in an environment supporting complex business processes.

  • 2+ years’ of experience in business analysis roles with exposure to finance activities and commodity risk management.

  • 2+ years’ of experience providing support for an enterprise grade application (preferably a CTRM/ETRM (commodity trading risk management) system).

Technical skills:

  • Experience with query writing using SQL (or equivalent) against a commercial database such as Oracle or MS SQL Server is an asset.

  • System integration and application support experience is an asset.

  • Experience troubleshooting or programming with Microsoft C# .NET is an asset.

  • Experience with data analysis and database tools.

  • Experience with requirement gathering methodology.

  • Experience with leading/creating test plans and coordinating UAT activities.

  • Customer relationship skills, demonstrated responsiveness, analytical thinking, problem solving, and planning skills are required. Application testing skills, how to organize and execute a test plan.

  • Ability to communicate highly technical information in a clear and concise manner to peers and business representatives.

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid downtown office position.

  • Minimal travel required to meet business needs.

  • Out of business hours and overtime may be required.

  • As required, participate in the on-call rotation schedule.

Additional Details:
