Background:

This position will fall under the Environment and Energy (E2) Group is comprised of three units: Ecosystem Services, Clean Energy, and Forestry and Natural Resource Management. The E2 group collaborates closely with other Winrock Groups, including Agriculture, Resilience and Water; Human Rights, Education & Empowerment, The Wallace Center, Domestic Programs, and Corporate Affairs, to identify and implement cutting-edge solutions to climate change. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) funded ClimAct activity will be based in Dhaka, Bangladesh. The activity is focused on supporting Bangladesh’s transition to net-zero and climate-resilient development pathways. This involves three key objectives: catalyzing climate-positive shifts in the policy landscape, transforming economic and financial systems, and enhancing governance and citizen engagement.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Private Sector Engagement Specialist will be responsible for providing directions and guidance, and oversight on private sector engagement across USAID’s ClimAct Activity. Working in close collaboration with the Chief of Party (COP) and Deputy COP/Technical, the Private Sector Engagement Specialist will design and lead implementation of private sector activities in alignment with the program’s activities and policy intervention in support of private sector engagement.

 

Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:

• Map out the potential business and corporate entities in Bangladesh who has already invested and have the willingness to invest in the future for supporting Bangladesh’s transition to net-zero and climate-resilient development pathways.

• Liaise promising investors to design a plan for private sector engagement, negotiate contributions and leverage compatible initiatives for greater Activity impact.

• Develop and establish strong working relationships with private sector entities/partners.

The position may also be expected to cultivate and strengthen relationships with other key stakeholders, including with civil society and government partners.

• Provide programmatic coordination and technical support for all private sector engagement activities ensuring quality, timeliness, and integration with Activity components.

• Develop a strategy that provides a clear direction for ClimAct activity, plan of action, short term, and long-term outcomes for the whole Activity period. This strategy should identify specific audiences, the rationale, messages, timeline, methods and expected outcome.

• Based on ClimAct activity focus area and on national priorities, create innovative and appropriate packages to effectively reach target business entities.

• Lead the plan, implementation, monitoring, and reporting on all private sector engagement activities on a timely basis.

• Other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Master’s degree or higher in communications, marketing, international development or related field or equivalent discipline

Work Experience: • At least 7 years of working experience in a relevant field of leadership or strategic level • Outstanding communication, advocacy, and writing skills in English • Outstanding knowledge of Bangladesh corporate world and their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR). • Good understanding about the government and International Non-Governmental Organizations. • Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities under pressure • Computer proficiency in MS Office applications

 

Desired:

· Experience working with international donor organizations such as USAID, World Bank, IFC, UN, etc.
