Are you ready to build America’s energy future? Form Energy is an American manufacturing and energy technology company. We’re revolutionizing energy storage with cost-effective, multi-day technology designed to keep the electric grid secure and reliable, even during extended periods of stress. By strengthening the electric system and reimagining what’s possible, we’re giving clean energy a whole new form!

In recent years, Form Energy has earned a number of accolades, including being named by TIME as a “Best Invention”, MIT Technology Review as a “Top Climate Tech Company To Watch”, and Fast Company as “One of the Next Big Things In Tech”. We are making rapid progress on our mission of delivering energy storage for a better world, and our team is growing just as rapidly to meet demand. We have signed contracts with leading electric utilities across the United States. Trial production of our iron-air batteries has already begun, and this year, production will take off to high volumes at our new factory in West Virginia.

Working for Form Energy is more than just a job, it’s a chance to be part of something extraordinary. And right now - right as we significantly scale up battery manufacturing -  might be the most exciting moment in the company’s history to join. Role Description

We are looking for a creative, diligent, and deeply technical systems architect to drive plant-level trade analyses that inform product architecture through robust mathematical modeling. You will be responsible for expanding our existing techno-economic model based on input from various teams spanning multiple disciplines, executing global systems optimization of key requirements and specifications of our product, and collating constraints to help inform design decisions from battery cell to plant level. The role will be highly collaborative, involving working with nearly all engineering teams at Form Energy, including the systems, cell, electrode, manufacturing, and test & validation teams. As an early member of the Product Architecture team, you will be at the confluence of technology development, product development, and product management, playing a central role in developing our first multi-day storage product.

What you'll do:

  • Build, deploy, and be a power user of bespoke performance and cost models, inclusive of reduced-order battery cell performance models, to accelerate design-performance-cost trade decisions

  • Collaborate with domain experts and modeling groups spanning multiple disciplines to scope, execute, and communicate the results of trade studies that inform architecture decisions

  • Develop flexible interfacing tools that enable seamless syncing between battery performance models and component-level cost models

What you'll bring:

  • 5+ years experience in a product development environment

  • Extensive experience with scripting and mathematical modeling in MATLAB/Simulink

  • Additional experience with python preferred

  • Stellar analytical thinking skills and the ability to understand multivariate parameter spaces

  • Ability to quickly gain a working knowledge of a wide range of technical details spanning multiple disciplines, from electrochemistry to mechanical engineering

  • Proficiency in reduced-order mathematical modeling of physical phenomena

  • Familiarity with constrained global optimization in high-dimensional parameter spaces

  • Experience or a strong interest in developing and testing robust simulation systems that interface with data from multiple sources

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Willingness to travel to visit our CA, MA or PA site on at least a quarterly basic

Applications will be accepted until the job is filled.
