Job Description

The Project

ACCIONA has been selected to deliver Western Harbour Tunnel – Stage 2, Sydney’s third harbour crossing. The new Western Harbour Tunnel (WHT) will connect to WestConnex at the Rozelle Interchange, cross underneath Sydney Harbour between Birchgrove and Waverton, and connect with the Warringah Freeway near North Sydney.

Project scope includes:

  • Construction of approximately 4.8 kilometres of mainline tunnels with three lanes in each direction
  • Civil, Mechanical and Electrical fitout of Stage 1 and Stage 2 tunnels
  • Surface level work, including on and off ramps and tie-in work to the Warringah Freeway

In line with the above, ACCIONA is now seeking a Shift Engineer to join the Western Harbour Tunnel – Stage 2 Project for TBM works.

Specific Tasks Include

  • Ensure that the scope is delivered within the allotted time and budget.
  • Assist in planning material, resources and systems usage for successful, cost-effective, and best-practice project completion.
  • Maintain documentation and systems for quality, safety, and environmental considerations.
  • Participate in client/contractor meetings.
  • Manage cost control for a certain scope of work and maintain 3 week look ahead.
  • Read and interpret design plans and drawings.
  • Supervise, mentor and support Graduate Engineers.

Required Skills and Competencies

Qualifications and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering (or similar).
  • Demonstrated experience in a similar tunnel role.
  • Problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Well-developed communication skills and an ability to build and maintain relationships with a broad range of subcontractors, local authorities and internal staff.
  • High attention to detail.
