We are looking for a passionate and motivated Horticultural Assistant to join our Operations team who is excited by the art and science of growing plants.

Job Purpose

Reporting to the Horticultural Manager, the Horticultural Assistant is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance and wellbeing of the crop plants at Tropic Biosciences’ site in Norwich, UK.  The individual will support the Horticultural Manager to provide plants in optimal condition to meet the requirements of the business’ scientific teams. 

Whilst the role is primarily focused on hands-on tasks, there is the opportunity to contribute in other areas including developing processes, monitoring plant health and quality improvement.


Responsibilities

  • Providing day-to-day maintenance for Tropic crops
  • Propagation of plant material from a variety of sources.
  • Maintaining cleanliness and organisation across all growth spaces.
  • Monitoring of growing spaces, e.g. environmental conditions, pests, service provision
  • Supporting the scientific with relevant horticulture tasks including transfers, repotting, transplanting, seed sorting etc.
  • Create and maintain records in line with regulatory and compliance requirements


Essential Requirements

  • Basic knowledge of plant physiology and cultivation
  • Knowledge of horticultural practices and procedures.
  • Accuracy in record-keeping
  • Positive and enthusiastic attitude


Desirable Requirements

  • Horticultural qualification
  • Good plant biology knowledge
  • Greenhouse experience
  • Experience with pest & disease identification and management
