Energy & Sustainability Associate

Position Overview

The Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD), the largest community college district in California with nearly 205,000 students across nine campuses, adopted a Clean Energy and Sustainability Resolution on July 8, 2020. This resolution aims to achieve 100% renewable, carbon-free electricity by 2030 and carbon-free energy for all uses by 2040. It also addresses zero waste, carbon emission tracking, and stormwater retention. By fall 2024, LACCD will start developing its District-wide Roadmap to Sustainability and Climate Action with a planning firm’s help.

To support these goals, LACCD seeks a Climate Corps fellow to assist with utility tracking, develop the District’s SIMAP Greenhouse Gas Inventory, and begin planning for the STARS assessment tool by AASHE. The fellow will collaborate with District stakeholders and the planning firm to tackle sustainability challenges and educate stakeholders on sustainability strategies, under the guidance of the Sustainability & Utility Program Manager.

Responsibilities

• Update the STARS assessment tool
• Benchmark with Energy Star Portfolio Manager and other utility reports
• Assist with SIMAP GHG Inventory development
• Collaborate with Shared Governance Committees
• Collect and analyze data on transportation, energy, waste, and water
• Support ongoing sustainability projects such as EVCS, PV, BESS, waste management, and native landscaping
• Enhance operational sustainability by securing rebates, writing grants, and performing other tasks
• Supervise LACCD student interns and assign RSCA-related tasks 
• Communications
• Create infographics, case studies, videos, and training materials

Desired Qualifications

• College degree (sustainability-related field or engineering preferred; relevant experience also considered)
• Strong writing, analytical, and communication skills
• Ability to work independently and with diverse groups
• Proven project planning and multitasking abilities
• Excellent organizational skills
• Problem-solving and creative thinking
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook)
• Experience with data analytics tools (e.g., SkySpark, Tableau, Python, ArcGIS)
• Basic math and data analysis skills
• Community engagement and outreach experience
