Position Description
As the Performance Engineer at FlexGen you will be at the forefront of analyzing the performance of battery energy storage systems (BESS). You will play a crucial role in ensuring the optimal functionality of both software controls and hardware, contributing significantly to the continued success of FlexGen and maximizing uptime and availability for customer BESS projects. This role requires a strong technical background in data analysis, problem-solving, and a passion for sustainable energy solutions.
The Performance Engineer will reside in the Lifecycle Solutions team at FlexGen with close interaction with field engineers, software engineers, data scientists and subject matter experts. This role reports to the Lead Performance Engineer.

This position is a hybrid role located at FlexGen's Durham, NC office.
Major Job Responsibilities:
Performance Analysis: Utilize data-driven approaches to monitor and assess the performance of battery energy storage systems. Identify trends, anomalies, and inefficiencies in both software and hardware components.
Problem Identification: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to pinpoint opportunities for system optimization.
Process Development: Identify process improvement opportunities. Develop and maintain standard operating procedures and collaborate with other FlexGen teams to implement.
Tool Development: Translate identification and resolution of equipment problems into automatable algorithms. Champion customer and Lifecycle Solutions needs with other internal teams. Work with other internal teams to automate reporting of system performance metrics.
Performance Optimization: Propose and implement improvements to software controls and hardware components to enhance system performance, efficiency, and longevity.
Testing and Validation: Plan and execute performance testing protocols to validate system upgrades and modifications, ensuring they meet project goals and industry standards.
Reporting: Generate detailed reports and documentation on performance analysis findings, trends, and recommended actions for stakeholders and project teams.
Technical Understanding: Maintain technical understanding of BESS hardware and software. Understand various use cases and operations scenarios for BESS in order to identify issues or improvements.
Position Requirements:
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
Minimum of 3 years work experience in a data analysis role, preferably within the energy industry.
Proven experience in analyzing the performance of battery energy storage systems or similar renewable energy technologies.
Proficiency in data analysis tools and programming languages (Python & R).
Demonstrated ability to set up and maintain data visualization tools.
Strong understanding of software controls and hardware components in energy storage systems.
Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
Capable of working without sponsorship (U.S. Citizen or Green Card holder)
Ability to travel (less than 10% of the time)
