About the Job:

Peak Energy is looking for a Systems Engineer to join our Energy Storage Systems (ESS) team and work at the forefront of the development of our gigawatt scale energy storage systems. This role will play a pivotal role in the design, development, and optimization of battery energy storage systems. This person will leverage expertise in systems engineering and battery technologies to lead the conceptualization, implementation, and validation of advanced energy storage solutions that meet the evolving needs of our clients and the energy market. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the end-to-end development of battery energy storage systems, from requirements definition and system architecture design to integration, testing, and deployment. 
  • Collaborate with electrical, thermal, structural, mechanical, embedded, software, systems modeling, and controls engineers to define system requirements, specifications, and design parameters. 
  • Conduct system-level analysis, modeling, and simulation to assess performance, reliability, and safety of energy storage systems under various operating conditions and use cases. 
  • Design and implement innovative solutions to optimize system performance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness, while ensuring safety and compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements. 
  • Lead system integration efforts, including hardware and software integration, interface definition, and system validation testing, to ensure seamless interoperability and functionality of energy storage systems. 
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the capabilities, scalability, and reliability of battery energy storage systems, leveraging emerging technologies and best practices. 
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior engineers, and collaborate with external partners and stakeholders to drive innovation and accelerate project delivery. 
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory developments in the field of battery energy storage systems, and integrate relevant insights into project planning and execution.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or related field. 
  • 10+ years of experience in systems engineering, preferably in the renewable energy or energy storage industry, with a focus on battery energy storage systems. 
  • Strong technical expertise in battery technologies, energy storage systems, and power electronics, with a deep understanding of system-level design principles and methodologies. 
  • Proficiency in system modeling and simulation tools (e.g., MATLAB/Simulink, PSCAD, etc.) and familiarity with industry standards and guidelines for energy storage system design and integration. 
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to effectively prioritize tasks, manage project timelines, and drive results in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders. 
  • Experience with product development lifecycle processes, including requirements management, design verification, and validation testing, is highly desirable. 
  • Passion for renewable energy, sustainability, and driving positive environmental impact through technology innovation. 
  • Eligible to work in the U.S.
