About the Power Resources Team

MCE’s Power Resources team is responsible for building a portfolio of clean resources to meet the needs of the customers and reliability of the grid. This team focuses on meeting MCE’s renewable energy and greenhouse gas free (GHG-free) targets. The power resources team negotiates and manages MCE’s Power Purchase and Energy Storage Agreements and Feed-in Tariff program. The effective work of this team has allowed us to reinvest in renewable energy projects within MCE’s service area that create family-sustaining green-collar jobs.

Senior / Principal Power Resources Systems Manager (open to hiring at either the Senior or

Principal level- one position only)

You will develop and implement an automated tracking system to streamline the administration of our power supply contracts.  You will have relevant experience in project management, with a preference for experience with long-term power contracts and/or other energy contracts.  This role requires a strong understanding of power supply contracts, contract administration, data management tracking, technical expertise in building automated processes, managing complex data sets for contract administration and compliance. You will ensure that all contracts are efficiently managed and tracked, aligned with regulatory standards, and that there are robust processes to enable efficient administration of contracts and accurate and timely filing of compliance reports.

Secondary responsibilities will include assisting the Power Resources Team with contract administration, power procurement activities and other ad hoc projects.

Leveling Senior Power Supply Project Manager and Principal Power Supply Manager

The distinction between a Senior Power Resources Systems Manager and Principal Power Resources Systems Manager is based on approach, technical ability, and years of experience in a similar or related field. More information listed with the Minimum Qualifications section below.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contract Tracking Systems– Build processes and implement systems to automatically track contract milestones, important terms and compliance requirements.

  • Process Improvements and Reporting- Automate processes for contract management and administration. Create reports to support contract administration, portfolio management and regulatory compliance.

  • Contract Administration– Manage and track power supply contract data and work with counterparties to enforce contract terms.

  • Regulatory Compliance– Ensure all power supply systems and related contracts meet rigorous energy regulations, safety standards, and environmental laws.

  • Cross-Departmental Collaboration– Collaborate cross-departmentally and with external stakeholders to align on project goals, manage contracts, maintain systems and resolve technical challenges.  

  • Risk Management– Proactively identify risks in both technical and contractual areas, implement mitigation strategies, and monitor system and contract performance to ensure successful project outcomes.

  • Technological Innovation– Stay at the forefront of technological trends, integrating cutting-edge solutions to continuously improve and modernize the organization's power supply infrastructure and contract management systems.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience

Senior Level

  • A minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible experience in a technical role focused on developing large systems, preferably at an electric utility, Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) program or in a closely related field. 

  • Education and or experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in engineering, computer science, business, economics, or finance.

Principal Level

  • A minimum of nine (9) years of progressively responsible experience in a technical role focused on developing large systems, preferably with direct experience at an electric utility, Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) program or in a closely related field.  

  • Education and or experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in engineering, computer science, business, economics, or finance.

Knowledge of:

  • Project Management and Contract Administration– Ability to track major milestones,  build and maintain databases to administer contract terms through the life of the contract.

  • Systems and Databases– Experience building systems and databases to automate processes for contract administration and compliance. PowerBI and SQL experience preferred. 

  • Energy Contracts– Knowledge of various contract types such as Edison Electric Institute (EEI) and Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), and settlement structures such as “contract-for-differences” and “index-plus”. Knowledge of the CAISO Markets, Energy and Ancillary products, and bidding requirements.

  • Energy Regulations & Compliance– Knowledge of Energy policies, rules, and regulations of the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC), California Energy Commission (CEC), the California Independent System Operator (CAISO).

  • Reporting– Ability to create reports for contract management, portfolio analysis and regulatory compliance.

  • Risk Management– Proficient in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks related to technical systems, contracts, compliance, and project execution.

  • Technological Solutions & Innovation– Knowledge of the latest technologies in energy infrastructure (e.g., smart grids, energy storage systems, renewable energy technologies), as well as contract management software and automation tools.

Starting Salary Range for a Senior Power Resources Systems Manager: $154,878.49 - $195,059.14
Starting Salary Range for a Principal Power Resources Systems Manager $159,533.73 - $214,319.19
