In support of achieving excellence and business results through safe, reliable operations, our Design Engineering Department is currently hiring for an Engineer/Engineering Trainee.

This is a permanent, full-time position which offers a competitive benefits, compensation and pension package and is located on site in Tiverton, Ontario.

What will you be responsible for?

Members of the Instrumentation and Control Design Section shall be responsible for plant and project engineering designs as it relates to the discipline of Instrumentation and Control design engineering.

Responsibilities for the selected individual include but are not limited to supporting design engineering activities to support station needs, and accountable to deliver consistent results to the customer (stations).

Specific Responsibilities:

  • Design pneumatic, analog and digital control systems using platforms such as PLCs and Distributed Control Systems (DCS)

  • Prepare or verify design deliverables such as but not limited to:

    • Design plans,

    • Conceptual engineering reports,

    • Design change packages, design change notices,

    • FMEA,

    • Instrument Calibration Sheets

    • Calculations,

    • Requirement traceability matrices,

    • Technical specifications

    • Commissioning specification

    • Commissioning Instructions

    • Prepare Elementary Wiring Diagrams

    • Flow Diagrams, Loop Diagrams,

    • Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID)

  • Develop engineering project schedules, budgetary estimates, cost and scheduling reports

  • Supporting the station through assessing and resolving engineering requests for outages, high priority, and online work

  • Lead or participate in multi-discipline teams to solve problems (Complex troubleshooting, Task Analysis Meetings, Technical Operability Evaluations, Engineering Evaluations, Root Cause Investigations, Internal and External Audits, etc.)

  • Lead or participate in development or enhancement to design management and engineering change control programs and procedures

  • Engage engineering service provider in relation to any engineering outputs being produced

Knowledge and Skills:

Technical Focus (Instrumentation devices and sensors):

  • Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) and various field bus technologies such as Profibus, DeviceNet, ControlNet and Modbus

  • Pressure and level measurement including Gauge, Absolute and Differential transmitters

  • Temperature measurement including bridge cards, transmitters, RTDs and thermocouples

  • Flow measurement including orifice, venturi, pitot tube, Rotameters, square root extractors and Ultrasonic Transducers.

  • Process control strategies including PID, feed-forward and cascade systems

  • Knowledge of

Education and Experience:

Engineer (Occupation Code 670325)

  • Completion of a 4-year University degree.

  • An Ontario Professional Engineering designation is required (P.Eng.).

  • A period of over 6 years and up to and including 8 years’ experience is considered necessary.

Engineering Trainee (Occupation Code 670207)

  • Completion of a 4-year University degree. 

  • Required to obtain a valid Professional Engineers of Ontario certification.

  • A period of over 2 years and up to and including 4 years' experience is considered necessary.
