About the Job

Temporary Part-Time Advisor – Flash Vessel Validation
Location: Remote
Type: Temporary (4-6 weeks)

About Skyven Technologies

At Skyven Technologies, we have developed a revolutionary heat pump technology to decarbonize industrial heat and move the needle on climate change. Our technologies have the potential to completely eliminate on-site CO2 emissions from industrial steam. We implement this technology through an innovative Energy-as-a-Service model that provides clean process heat to industrial facilities. We identify, fund, design, build, and install our cutting-edge, decarbonization technologies to help industrial manufacturers reach their sustainability goals, while minimizing their risk and reducing their operational expenses.

About the Role

Skyven is seeking a Temporary Part-Time Advisor to assist in validating the performance of a custom-designed flash vessel for our steam-generating heat pump system. The project is expected to require 20-40 hours of work over a period of four weeks or less, with compensation at a negotiable hourly rate.

Technology Background

Skyven’s flash vessels receive warm water from a waste heat source and use pressure drops to generate low-pressure steam. This process is similar to multi-stage flash (MSF) distillation technology but without condensers. The steam is then compressed to a higher pressure using mechanical vapor recompression (MVR) fans.

Key Responsibilities

  • Validate the performance of Skyven’s flash vessel designs using historical data, empirical correlations, and scaling exercises

  • Analyze steam generation rates based on vessel geometry and operating conditions

  • Confirm or recommend modifications to flow rates and interstage orifice dimensions

  • Provide insights on:

  • Liquid sloshing and its impact on orifice performance

  • Liquid temperature profiles and variations along vessel length and depth

  • Likelihood of droplet carryover in real-world operation

  • Other practical considerations for vessel performance and operation

  • Participate in weekly video conference calls (one hour per week) during U.S. East Coast working hours

Requirements

Ideal Candidate

  • Extensive real-world experience with full-scale multi-stage flash (MSF) or similar flash vessel technologies

  • Ability to estimate flash train performance (steam generation rates, water temperatures) using empirical methods

  • Prior work involving both analytical evaluation and validation with operational field data

  • Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, phase change, and thermal processes in industrial applications

  • Experience with practical design considerations beyond simulations (CFD or purely analytical work is not the focus of this role)

FAQs

Q: Am I expected to design a new flash vessel for Skyven?
A: No. Skyven has already designed the vessel and selected key parameters. The role is to analyze and validate the existing design.

Q: Does experience with simulations (CFD, analytical models) qualify me?
A: No. We are specifically looking for individuals with hands-on experience with full-scale, real-world flash vessel systems.

Q: Do I need MSF experience, or does other flash vessel experience qualify?
A: MSF experience is ideal, but other relevant flash vessel experience may also be acceptable.

Q: Is there potential for follow-up work?
A: Possibly. Depending on findings, there may be an extension or new project scope, but additional work is not guaranteed.

Benefits

  • 20-40 hours of work over 4-6 weeks

  • Hourly rate negotiable
